but i dont know if i will be able to decide between a custom ran or an Engl head (thinking the Black more signature maybe)

which one do you think is more of an asset?

as for the Ran, you can pay half in advance and then pay the rest later on, so thats a great thing for us poor bastards. Also, what kinda gear do you have now? and what tone are you looking for?

the most brutal and tight tone possible

tightness is a must, i want to avoid the stringyness that i hear in alot of tube amps (Spawn of possesion)

I'de get the amp. its going to be a huge tone improvement.

but for what you just mentioned I wouldn't get a Ritchie Blackmore. it has only 1 eq and not a lot of gain compared to a powerball or a savage. the blackmore is more of a rock orientated amp then a metal amp like the others are build for.
Our other guitarist has a Blackmore, it's just less agressive. still have great tone though, but if you look at the price difference, I'de go for a powerball or fireball if you're tight on money. The Savage is a bit more refined and smooth.

well he lives in PEI (its about 5-6 hour drive from me), and we live in atlantic canada, so MUSICSTOP is the assholes we have to deal with, they wont order anything like that in, i know guys who tried to get an ESP guitar and could not, because they dont have a canadian supplier... so we would have to get the ENGL's thru the USA, and ran's would have to come from poland (i think?).

well. I can tell your from first hand that a powerball can get more brutal. though a Blackmore won't let you down, I think the powerball is the better investment and it just has a bunch more tonal options too.

No, for me to the use border its about a days drive, and the closest state is Maine, and thats a shit hole (i've been there before), but i have family in ontario and going to new york state means GUITAR GEAR UP THE ASS!!! , but i think there maybe a store in southern ontario that may sell ENGL's in but keep it on the down, i know where my sister lives sells ESP's, so you might be able to get one from around that area.

as for the thunder, it is brutal. 50w is plenty loud but if you're playing on extreme volumes you might need more. I never fellt like I needed more when playing my Savage 60, but we do play pretty loud. I guess its a matter of how loud you play.

it's the start of the Engl range though, so it doesn't have a lot of options and shit but its just a straight-to-the point brutal amp. But I'de probably save up for a Fireball or powerball. or see if you can get one of those used?

BLS has a point though, if Dariusz goes up in price, you're fucked. he's still cheap now and you only need 50% to get him started. it takes a while but its probably well worth the wait. (I don't know since mine is taking fucking half a year, haha)

Yep, and if anything ENGL prices will go down. I say Order the ran, pay the 50%, start saving the rest of your money and by the time the ran's down you'll be able to pay that off and most likely be close to having enough for an ENGL.

Yup. You should see the musicstore here... every musicstop in the city (3) has only 1 good guitar. the one just accross the "lake" from me has a gibson flying V, bedford's has a soloist (USA MADE) and the bigone in halifax has a jackson RRV. amps are even worse.

if you want something you have to order it in and they will charge you extra because they are whores and the stuff is already over priced.

Ontario is not too bad, they have nice shit there, and are priced well, when i was in BC i wish i could have gotten into a guitar store, but i could not...

I'm actually moving to Canada in about a year and a half. British Columbia. So I'll be fucked for getting new gear? I'm not worried about guitars because I'm going there to go to luithery school where I'll build a minimum of like 5 guitars in a year thet I get to keep. But I'm guessing no nre amps? Dude, come to Ottawa for gear. Steve's music here said they can order anything (and yes I've asked about engl's ran's, whatever you want) they order it and let you try it out. Minus the Ran guitar though, thats custom shit and they will make you pay for it. But ya they said they can order engls and if you play them at the store and arn't happy they put'em in the showroom because they know someone will buy it. They charge list prices if your a student at the University (haha I am).

Australians are fucked for gear too.Ive never seen an ENGL or a ran around here.We have heaps of marshalls and fenders though.lifes a biatch

well i am gonan get a new cab soon, but the problem is obviously id have to get a stereo cab for the head but how long i am gonna keep the gx 130c in my setup( looking for a ampeg vh 140c) so i dont know if it would be a good idea to get a stereo cab if im just gonna sell my stereo head so im not really sure what im gonna do....anyways Avatar mentioned something about being able to rewire mono to stereo fairly simple but i need to talk to them more about that, if i can rewire it to the right amount of ohms from stereo to mono then the decision will be easy......

seeing how the ampeg is a mono head (right??) and id like to have that but i dunno maybe id be satisfied with my crate and a stereo cab

Is the cab you are currently using wired in an 8 ohm configuration? If so, all you will need to get max. output from the Crate is another 8 ohm cab.
That is what I am running (two 8ohm 4x12 cabs) and while it is not as loud as other full stacks I have owned, it will still rattle shit off the walls with ease.

I never played through an Engl. I've never seen any anywhere around here. I'm looking into buying a half stack though and now i'm curious, what style are Engl's best used for?

ENGL's are pretty versatile.. but they can definetly pull Metal off with no problems.

I'll have to look into them. What's a good amp that would fit my style and is around $1000. I mainly play thrash/death and i'm looking for something heavy that can really pack on the distortion without sounding shitty. and it has to be able to have good sounding leads too. what good is an amp that makes solos sound shitty.
