I have a B.C. Rich Bronze Mockingbird I haven't played for a while cause the action was horribly high and almost impossible to play, but I just recently got a flat head and screwed down the screws on the base where your right hand goes and it lowered the action, but man it was so damn hard just to screw them down ( never been done before on this particular guitar ) I was wondering if anyone else had had that problem or knows a better way to fix the action.

yeah, I've fucked up two guitars trying to do things on my own like that so it's best to take it to someone who can fix it and know what they're doing.

yeah a couple weeks ago, my friend tried to tork his neck to get lower action, but he ended up fucking his guitar up by using a 7 string set instead of 6 string like he shoulda. he has the heaviest ones on.

u should adjust the neck first..

how u do that?????

hold down ur 1st fret and hold down ur 24th fret, then look if theres some space at +- the 12th fret so u can push the string down, this should be like 1/2 mm. got that then adjust the action.

if u have a tremolo, just screw down the tremolo untl it looks nice to u, make shure to plug in the guitar and see if there arent any dead notes, how u do that???
simply hit every note on every string from say the 12 fret going up to 24, if u fiind some notes that sound the same, say an 20 sounds like an 21 then u should higher the strings a bit.

keep doing this untill every note is clearly hearable, and voila u should be done..

hope this might help u a little cuz its a kinda lama description of how i do that.

Hmm... Sounds like the posts needed lubrication. Next time you change strings, you might want to unscrew them all the way out and lube the threads.

Suggestion for anyone wanting to learn to do that kind of stuff themselves:

AWESOME book:
"Guitar Player's Repair Guide" by Dan Erlewine
Gives detailed instructions for how to do setups on most of the different bridge/tailpiece types and some ins & outs of trussrod adjustment. Doing a setup is something you have to develop a "feel" for, but the Erlewine book is a helluva place to start.

Another helpful book by the same guy:
"How To Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great"

From studying these books, I have developed a good enough feel to do all the maintenance on all of my guitars. (10? 12? I forget...) But before, if something was out of whack I'd be on the phone to my semi-pro luthier friend with a cry of "HELP!"

Yea, get an axe with a real bridge. Not those wrap-around pieces of shit that pull forward after some time. The bridge is literally held on by the strings only.

Lol, that was one of the biggest regrets I have...buying that thing. It did make a good test model for custom painting bodies though .
That and buying a marshall MG LOL, ahh newb mistakes they were.
Im happy now, with my ESP ltd m200fm and my Blue Voodoo .

Well, i bought it pretty much unused, it only cost 135$ so at least I didn't break any bank accounts on it, but hey, I was like 15 when I got it or something.

Now that i've become more serious about my playing, if I get some more pocket change, i'll be keeping my eyes open for some good ESP's, especially used if they're in good condition.

fixing the action didn't screw me up THIS time, but i'll make sure I know what im doing or attempting to do before I actually dig in there anymore, lol. lesson learned without any headaches this time, looks like I got lucky.

there are two screws on a locking nut... screwing them a little up to raise the nut... a good or a bad idea?
