Crate Blue Voodoo 50

I was just wondering, what is everyone's opinion on the 50 watt Blue Voodoo head? I just saw one on Ebay for a fairly cheap price. (about 250) What's the difference netween this and the 120 and 60 watt heads? Is there a degredation in sound? Is this head worth it? Thanks.

it's only 50w instead of 60w or 120w.... it's also a short chasis head... so it's much smaller..
but pretty much the same.

i love blue voodoos...

if your considering a Blue voodoo you should also consider This Unit.

It has alot of the same tonal characteristics of the blue voodoo plus it will clean your cloths....

jesus.... what did you guys play them through? squire strats and PA speakers?

blue voodoos are awesome... toneful, yet capable of getting brutal... unique sounding too... not another recto or jcm wannabe.

where did you have the presence and gain at? how loud was it? maybe like under 3 it can be buzzy like most high gain tube heads at low volumes.
and with the gan cranked out the eq'ing past like 6 on the highs lows, middle, and presence...
it kinda starts to sound funny.
when i barrowed my buddy's bv120 for awhile.
i liked it at like 6 for highs and lows, gain at 8, mids at like 5 and presence at like 3-4... sounded fairly brutal, chunky and deep yet clear and prestine... one thing that makes them so appealing to me is how dark they seemed to be voiced. which some people hate. to me it depends on the amp.

I got my Blue Voodoo 120 watt for like...$300 i believe. I lucked out when I found one in a pawn shop and I talked him down to about 300 or 250. Can't remember. I love mine though but idk if I would get a 50 watt or 60 watt or whatever the hell is for 250. I'd try getting cheaper if you could. I didn't know they even made a Blue Voodoo under 120 watts.

I just tried a BV120 and I loved it!! Yeah, definitely more "buzzy" than my 5150, but I actually liked that. Sometimes I can't get the 5150 as nasty as I want, and the BV got closer to what I've been looking for.

I heard you can actually flip a switch on the 120 to turn it into a 60 watt head. If that's true, seems like the 120 would definitely be more desirable, even if a bit more expensive.

More expensive than the 60 watt... but if there's no switch, spose it makes sense to get the 60 watt for playing at lower volumes than you'd play at with the 120 watt.
