pro-"bc rich" thread
after reading through a lot of your threads
i can definitely say that most of you are contra-bcrich(-guitars)
even if they never played on one
well i have to say that i just bought a "bc rich warlock pro" for 500€
and i am very satisfied with it
my friend bought himself a ibanez sz320 for about the same and we both agree that the bcrich is more fun to play
i tried a lot of other guitars
i lost hours in shops to try any kinds of
ibanez (especially rg-series), jacksons, emp's and many others
and finally i have to say that the warlock pro offered most for that amount of money:
it's really awesome to play; the double humbuckers sound best and everything is quite fine
sure not everybody likes its look but i cant find any other reasons why someone should like (to play) it
ripp3r
ps: happy new year

Just a thought...do you live in London? I was in London this summer and there is this mega guitar store in the basement of a Virgin Records in London. Killer stuff...got to play a flying V for once. Good stuff.

The Beast has got to be one of the stupidest designs ever. No matter what you're going to get jabbed with one of its horns when playing.

[get jabbed]
they only two where you can jab yourself is the ironbird and the beast
you're right
i own the warlock and the only thing that can happen is that you jab others
but not yourself; its also very comfortable to play while sitting
[pro-bono]
pro what?

"pro bono" is lawyerspeak for legal work done for free as a public service. If BCR was giving guitars away in the 80s, I sure as hell didn't see them and wish I had! I think the fellow who used "pro bono" in his sentence must have used it in some context that only he knows!
To the guy who bought the BCR- Who CARES what anyone else says about your choice of guitar? You gotta get the guitar that works for YOU and fuck all else. I only play Hamers, and nobody else seems to give a shit about them. Fine by me- keeps the price of used Hamers low and all the more of them for ME!

No I live in the USA. I wouldn't mind living in London though except that exchange rates makes everything 2x more expensive.

@ wyldbil
first thanks for the explanation and you are of course right that it should have no meaning what the others say
and i do not care
i read those anti-bcrich-threads already before buying one myself but i then wondered what all those people really dislike at these guitars
i think it's a great guitar and i wouldn't change...
@ guitar_demon
very good to quote without knowing the meaning^^
@ TheDreadfulHoroscope
another pro-bcr-one :-))
@ rapeandruin
well in europe prices are good at the moment because €uro is more worth dollar
but it would be even better without taxes and import costs

I love my neck-thru mockingbird, I loved it even more once I threw a set of seymour duncan invaders in there. B.C. Rich is one of my favorite guitar companies, I just don't like any of the import models. An orignal hesperia factory B.C. rich will make you shit your pants if you play it. The action is like warm butter, smooth and satysfying.

What do I mean?
BC Rich Sucks ass, unless you pump out +$1,000 US for a custom one.
My problem with BC rich, I own one, and the damn thing is not good, the wood sucks, chips like a mother fucker, plays like a fender, and I had to bring it to a shop 3 times. All the ones I have played are poorly built.
Whats a real mans guitar?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...st/IM002048.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...st/IM002046.jpg
thats my guitar, now other good guitars would be an ibanez (god knows what trash you picked up that was an RG for $200... maybe play a REAL RG), Jackson, Schecter, Gibson, or something else with class.

Ibanez shits all over the standard series BCR! My 2620QM is a good example ! But the BC Custom Shop is another story.

I own an NJ Warlock and I wish now that I had never purchased it, even if I paid only 300$ for its unplayed mint condition. Now I'm furiously scraping together the requisite funds to invest in a Schecter C-1 Classic, which will undoubtedly be a much finer instrument.
The thing sounds like cardboard to me. I'm going to completely dismantle the instrument and sell the pickups/faux Floyd Rose/tuners on E-bay for a little extra cash. I don't know what I'll do with the actual woods ... possibly make a coffee table or something.

Sell the neck and body... they go for great prices on EBAY. Seems like everyone and their grandma wants a beast body and/or a beast neck. And their rare on ebay.. which is even better for you.

The body actually looks great ... a turqoise transparent flame finish. At least it's the best looking piece of cardboard ever
..........
Hmmm, what about those 'half naked model holding a six pack' display stands at the conveniant store ... those might be better ...

"Ripping Off" is not a venomous enough term to describe their marketing practise ... They manufacture these little "kits" that exploit young would-be guitarists, greatly diminishing the quality of heavy metal guitars in circulation among the public. And the actual endorsers don't even play those shitty instruments live, instead the American made B.C. Rich's. I mean, Wylde and Iommi have Epiphones in their names, but at least I could live with one of those. Sheesh.

I understand what you're saying, at a Guitar Center I picked up a Warlock Pro and thought, "Hey, these really are'nt that bad, as people make them out to be!" But once I bought my own, an NJ ( supposedly even better ) within about 2 weeks or so the novelty wore off and I started to hate it.
Exactly what other guitars did you play, brand and price, before making the decision to purchase a Warlock?

well, i played a lot of
i really took my time to make my decision
i was for about 6 or 7 hours (!) in shops and tried different ones
i can't remember all but some....
ibanez:
sz320 ~500€ nice one but not my design :-)
rgRG370DX or GRG270B or any else for ~500€ very good sound but i didn't like how play it
jackson:
don't know model number but also for ~500€
very easy to play but the sound was to weak
esp:
KH-202 ~500€ not convincing
kramer:
baretta, i think 400€ okay but nothing exceptionel
and others i can't remember...

Bc Rich are good starting guitar. If you want to get the maximum of your bc rich you have to upgrade it.
Change the pickup to EMG
Change the Floyd Rose to something better good, it should not be hard to find a better floyd rose
After you will got a nice bc rich.
Because when you buy a retail bc rich in music store you will got the basic stuff on it, so upgrade it and complain after.

i don't even know the name of the model

i probably will
anywhen
and i played a kh-202 with emg humbuckers but it sounded worse than the bcrich
what about the floyes rose? i think it's okay, isn't it? i tried the floyes rose of an ibanez and you couldn't play because the strings became so weak...
and thank you ThongPick for writing a serious, not insulting but informing post

the only BC Rich shapes i like are the mockingbird and virgin. In fact, I like virgins so much that my custom Ran is virgin shaped. The other body shapes, well I think are a bit stupid.

what about the floyes rose? i think it's okay, isn't it? i tried the floyes rose of an ibanez and you couldn't play because the strings became so weak...

To quote BLS, rather loosely : "I'd rather have a shitty B.C. Rich stock pickup than an EMG HZ. At least the B.C. Rich pickups sound shitty ... in an original way!"
You played a cheap guitar with EMG HZ's in them. EMG HZ's are the inexpensive low-quality pickups that are put in inexpensive low quality guitars. HZ is to EMG as Duncan Designed is to Seymour Duncan ... only worse. Play a guitar with authentic active EMG's, and I promise your opinion of EMG's will change drastically.
And I'm willing to bet that when the strings became weak on the floyd rose you played, the pitch of all six strings inexplicably dropped as well ...

any new 500 dollar guitar sounds like shit, haha!
or well, 90% of them do.
BC Rich are pretty lame, unless you get the american made's, but still I don't consider them to be top knotch. I can't stand their neck profile but at least the sound on the high end models is allright.

haha, you probably don't know how to use it then :P the floyds on rg's are way superior. depending on which rg you play, a 300 bucks starter set is bound to be shit. But the edge trems are far superior then anything bc rich ever made on the trem deparment, the original RG edge trems are great, they're equals to OFR's if you as me. Many people who played them will agree with me.
I've played allmost everything BC Rich had to offer but was never that impressed, they're more about the looks then the tone and quality, though if you need that, thats what you should go for!
Also, KH202's aren't good guitars either, and comparing your guitar to a 300 bucks ibanez starter kit isn't a fair comparisson. I invite you to come over and play my '89 RG750 prestige which will make you cream your pants.

Indeed it does. I played one myself and I'm still pretty impressed with the high-end ibanez range. the low end seems to get worse and worse whilst the high-end's are still doing great.

I bought it off a friend, 400 bucks. it's pretty banged up (ok, it's 16 years old now, haha!) but it still plays like a dream. Must say that the quality of most factory made guitars went downhill.
that even goes for Gibsons, I played one yesterday on my own amp, a 99 les paul studio, it does sound really deep but the neck just seems sooooo slow

nobody says that a custom made ibanez prestige is worse than a korea bc rich
but in relation of the price the bcr does very well i think

well, anything from korea is basically shit, just look at the tone woods and build quality for instance. ibanez prestige's aren't custom made either though.
But I do have a custom made ibanez here at home, it's a bass guitar, factory custom!
In relation to price, I think BC Rich is just around the same level as any of the well known guitar brands, but they do have freaky designs so thats what get them a bunch of fans across the world!

I agree about the Les Paul neck's feeling slow, they are to fat and bulky. I get in so many arguments with other guitarists who swear Les Pauls and Strat's are the only true way to go. They are both shaped with technology from 50 years ago! I think Jackson Custom's are the way! So smooth, like butter!

Yes, they take a little getting use to. Like I said before, I think the only good quality is the shapes, so fucking metal. Alot of people have complained about the beast and it's shape being hard to play. I actually like it, there should be a warning label on it "Danger!-only for the extreme".

What I meant was B.C. Rich's are pretty crappy guitars but if you want the shapes you must learn to sacrifice a bit of over all skill on your guitar for it. Hence: it takes a little getting use to.

first, i liked the beast most
but it's harder to play
and you need an airfield to land it
the warlock doesn't need that much space
one of the reasons, that i finally bought it
and not another one

a matter of personal preference and a matter of knowing good guitars/materials/tone.
Germany has some great guitar shops, like musik productiv and musicstore koeln!

Exactly! - how the fuck is music technology supposed to progress when people refuse to play anything but 40 year old fenders and gibsons and marshall amps from the 80s?

BC rich guitars aren't shit by definition. They have high class and low class guitars just like any other brand.
The point is, their guitars are shittier than you would expect for their price range. ex. You buy an 500 guitar, and actualy get an 300 guitar for that money.

I just think it's cool to talk to someone thousands of miles away with common interests, nothing to serious. My girlfriend was raised in Germany and we just hosted her foster parents. We plan on going next november '05. Never been to many places, looking forward to the Fatherland!
I am rotting in Southern California outside of San Diego (U.S.)
the nick(name?) comes from a H.P. Lovecraft short story called "The Doom of Sarnath".

calling germany the fatherland has nothing to do with being a nazi. assuming your a born and raised german and you heritage it german, then germany is your fatherland. is a russian called russia the mother land does that automatically make him a commie NO
Quote:

i disagree with you here, the term fatherland relates to germany only, just like "the big apple" refers to new york city

As the world knows, I have a Custom BC Rich Stealth. It rocks. I can play guitar and it's comfortable. It is a "Man's" guitar. It looks like the Washburn Dime "Southern Cross" as in it's somewhat pointy. I'm pro BC Rich. I'm looking to buy another one. Perhaps a Bich. No cheap quality, I want the good stuff.
