double triggering problem
hello how is it goin, i am new here but, i have browsed through the forum many times, i am not a drummer but i like drums alot, and i pretty much now the rudiments of drums and stuff. my drummer uses an alesis dm5 drum module, and he uses these cheap triggers that came with the module, but, he has a problem with double triggering, mostly on his kick drum, we have tried alot of things and settings on the kick drum, but we havnt found a good enough setting to stop the toms from, triggering the bass, or sometimes it isnt sensative enough, we were thinking of just using two bass drums, but that is realy inconvienient for us, any help or suggested settings would be cool, oh and i am realy sorry if there is already a thread like this, i searched around and didnt find anything.

I, myself dont have triggers but im going to trigger my bass drum or drums someday. I do know that you get what you pay for. You said he got them for free so thats a sign that they are going to be shit triggers. Your best bet would be to invest in better triggers. Check out Musiciansfriend.com and search triggers. You dont have to buy them from there, just look at all the different prices. The more you spend, they better quality. Ive also heard before from some people that own cheap triggers saying that when they hit their bass drum, the signals sometimes get mistaken for 2 or even three hits. And that isnt good at all.

yea, thats the double triggering problem we have, i am looking to get some better triggers, but i mostly wanted to know if there was a problem with the sensitivity settings, and if anybody knew any recomendable settings to solve this problem, but i guess we will just mess with it until we find something good.

I doubt you will find a setting that doesnt double trigger. I would say your only bet is to get better triggers. Also, if hes using a double pedal on one bass drum, its putting twice as much strain on one trigger. SHITY triggers+ double pedal doesnt= good.

Your problem sounds like it could be both triggers, and DM5 settings. I would probably be worth getting a new BD trigger(small investment, but worth it) I hear the Ddrum triggers (red shots I think) are pretty good for the price.

I believe the same company makes regular ddrum triggers and they also make the red shots. DO NOT BUY THE RED SHOTS. I hear all the time they are horrible and that they do alot of multiple triggering.

It wont be like spending your life savings on triggers. The good quality ones arnt realy to much money. In your case, i would get some good ones to insure that you and your drummer dont have the same problem again.
