Can you only get so good on the guitar
to where the people you are playing with think you are showing off with all of your exotic scales, sweeping etc. It seems that way with my bands, I am a much more experienced musican than the other musicians. Which is fine and doesn't bother me at all. But at first they seemed very impressed with anything I did, now it's liek they have realized my potential and no matter how good I get it no longer suprises them that I learned how to play it.

To try to answer your question, yes I think we can always get better. We can always find new stuff to learn. I myself can sweep rather fast, but I can't improvise for a long time. People will always find new stuff to do on the guitar that will continue to amaze us.

Here is what I am saying, there are those who play guitar for themselves, and those who play to impress others. Well when your guitar skills become obfuscated reason must rise, correct? I mean you still can shred it out, it's just that no one pays attention, or seems to really care as much. My old frontman's girlfriend used to be orgasmic about the fact aht he sang and played guitar. Now she doesn't give a fuck, it's strange. |

They don't understand it as well as us. All they see is fast fingers, but they don't really hear it or understand how fast it really is. If you play for another (good) guitar player they will respect you more, and pay a lot more attention. I rarely ever play for anybody. The other day I was at a guitar store and got some compliments. Sure it feels good, but you shouldn't always be trying to impress other people. Play for yourself AND for other people. |
