I got my half stack finally !

Ok I got the JCM 900 with the along with the 1960 A cab.

So what should I use to get super heavy with it ?

Perhaps a tube screamer or maybe the Zakk Wylde pedal.

Oh and how are you supposed to turn off a tube amp?

do you put stand by on "0" and wait until it cools then turn it off ?

Thanks everyone this kicks so much ass !!!!!!!!!!

Turn it up to ten. Get hot pickups. Use a tube screamer.

BLS and Innards Decay have recommended devices sufficient for your purposes ... about the Zakk Wylde Dunlop, just remember that just because his name is on it does not make it a great piece of equipment. That and, my personal opinion is that the ZW Overdrive is a bit overpriced.

The ZW OD is cheaper than the Maxon OD-808 and about the same price as the TS9

it cant be that shitty if Joe Satriani (Former DS-1 user) uses one as well as Zakk. Must mean its better than the DS-1 atleast.

That particular pedal costs 120-130$ from Musician's Friend, if I'm not mistaken ... or am I?

*checks musiciansfriend.com*

Wait ... I'm wrong. I recant my previous statement regarding that pedal.

100$ brand new is'nt too exorbitant a fee, and I'm sure you might be able to snag it for 60-80$ on ebay.com.

meh, there are better, but the rats are definately some of my favorites... for jcm's i like the seymoure duncan pickup booster pedal alot too, it's more of a clean boost that you use to hit the preamp harder with...

for a jcm 900 i highly suggest jj tubes, they have a model of preamp tubes that have about %10 more gain than the average preamp tube... you can also have bob hand pick your tubes for which one are the highest gain and breakup the easiest.

is it the 4100 dual reverb model? i myself am looking into the sl-x 2100 model, it's basically the same but minus the reverb and it adds an extra preamp tube for more gain.

i hear it being mentioned all the time but i dont actually know what it is...:S

what does it do to the sound, what kind of sounds do you get out of it, and why is it neccessary for sum people, what does it help achieve?

sorry, im really new to all this stuff

overdirve is basically distortion... most "overdrive" pedals have less gain than "distortion" pedals and are normally used for either lower gain aplications by themselves or are used to get more gain out of your amp, for instance alot of people love the tone of the jcm800's, but the jcm 800's don't have insane levels of gain, stick a ts 9 in front of it, and it basically un alters the tone of the amp but adds gain.

And when you say gain, do you mean actual volume, or the level of distortion? Or both?

I am sort of new to this as well.

gain is somewhat analogous with distortion, it controls how dirty you want your signal to be. Im sure XDX can explain this better than i can.
