De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Guitar Tone
Does anyone know what Euronymous used on this album to get that tone. I thought it was pretty impressive for a black metal album. Also what does Dissection use?

No man, this album wasn't recorded with an answering machine like the earlier ones.
I remember someone on here said he used an Ibanez tube screamer and another pedal.

Yes, that was me, I think.
He used a Gibson Les Paul with an Ibanez Tube Screamer (apparently) and another "heavy metal box", with his amp on very low volume.

Well, no. He used...the guitar he used was a Gibson Les Paul <something>, and he had this old Marshall, and...his effects boxes was 2 simple boxes. A "heavy metal" box, which he connected together with another fuzz box, I think it was Tube Screamer or Overdrive or something...?
He connected the two together, and when he had his Marshall at a very low volume, it gave this extremely crunch sound. It was very raw, but it was still distinct, so that’s what we used for De Misteriis.

I can get a nice grim black metal distortion out of my GNX3, it sounds great. But I'm still tweaking it.

Jon uses Gibson Les Pauls, and Marshall amps if I'm right. I think he uses a bit more of his own playing to get his sound than he does distortion or tone.
As for black metal distortion goes, boost the gain, the bass, and lower your mids. Treble should be around 6, too. If I use a distortion setting on my RP7 along with my normal amp distortion, I can get this very low, very dark black metal sound.
But understand this about BM recordings; alot of it is not the musician's themselves, but how they record. Listen to any Darkthrone album. They keep the quality very raw, and very non existant.

I recognize the fact that some black metal bands use poor production for a number of reasons. I am not really looking for that ugly tone, and I think Euronymous had a superb tone on De Mysteriis...something unlike most BM bands.

No they don't. Well it doesn't sound like it at least. I saw them on their tour last month and Watains guitarsound was very crunchy and dry..

Lol.. Well if you listen to Casus Luciferi and say that the sound isn't even similar to Dissection something is very wrong with your ears He used exactly the same setup like Jon at the concert i went to [Boss MZ, Boss Digital Delay and a Boss tuner pedal..] . It wouldn't make sense if he used something else at yours.. but who knows..
