is it possible to have more than one scale in a song?

I'm currently writing some riffs for this song, and the riffs consist of the major scale and some spanish sounding scale. Now instead of writing two seperate songs, I want to merge the two scales, i.e. start the song off with the major, and then half way, somehow merge it with the spanish scale, or let the last note of the major scale ring out for four seconds, and then commence with the spanish 1. is it ok to do this?

you can do ANYTHING you want in music, thats what so great about it. its not like theres a big black book of laws and if you break one some demon will come and eat your gear. you could have two solos going back and forth or over eachother in completly different scales. if you dig how it sounds then go with it. just cause you know theory and how it works doesnt meen you have to abide by it

"first you learn music, then how to play your instrument, then you foget all that bullshit and just play!"

You'd be stupid not to. If you change up the sound (Nothing overly dramatic, but at least small changes) it sounds much better. Tempo changes, key changes and all that happy shit is what makes a good song great...

Most of the time...

I personally enjoy incorporating the spanish stuff in my songs, but i do the scale a few different ways then make riffs that branch out of it.

lets say you're playing around in the key of g-major, somewhere, rest on a d major chord(per se) which is the V chord(second most important chord with the most pulling power to the root I/G chord) in that key sig... then while you have one guitarist doing that, the other can play a D dorian mode(per se) over it, which will give it a very different flavor from the G major scale, then instead of going right back to the major shit, start sticking the chords and riffs around that d dorian shit... wham, you just landed yourself in a completely different key signature.

even if you look at it from a THEORY BASED view, it's totally legit and can still work fine with the rules..
