Question Customizing A Guitar

Hey, recently i ve been thinking about customizing one of my guitars. Its a Starforce strat type, series 8007 guitar from the eighties i think. Its pretty sweet and unique, so i feel i should add to it and change some things. Currently it has some crappy emg passive pickups in it and a dodgy fake floyd. Anyways i m thinking of replacing these and also ripping out all the electronics and starting again. Anyways i was just wondering whether anyones got any ideas for any pickups or any thing i could do to it?

well, put in an OFR if you can, theyre pretty cheap from carvin, and theyre the real thing too. Also, since you already have emgs, why not just put a 81/60 or 81/85?

hahah, that sounds like a good idea, anyways i aint got a digital camera, but i ll try and get one to take pics of the guitar. If u want more info, theres reviews of it on harmony-central.com
http://www.harmony-central.com/Guit...ce/8007-01.html

i cant change the neck cos its a thru neck and its real nice anyways although i wouldnt mind shaving the finish off the back of the neck . Wat i m thinking about is getting some new pickups probly, a sd 59 in the neck and middle and a x2n in the bridge. I was also thinking of adding a emg turbocharger or some kind of pre amp thing. I ll add a floyd aswell

get an ebony fretboard (if it doesnt already have one). Have a black binding.
fret it with stainless steal frets. Dye them frets all black. paint the entire guitar black. Get a black OFR. black everything. Name it blacky.
Oh yeah, Get them black coated strings too!

I'd watch out yet.

From warmoth.com-
To Finish or Not to Finish?

All our necks are dipped in an oil based penetrating sealer which is compatible with virtually all secondary finishes. This provides enhanced stability; however, it is not adequate protection for playing. We strongly recommend you apply a hard finish to all Maple, Mahogany, and Koa necks. Oils do not validate our warranty requirements

We understand the attraction of raw or lightly oiled necks. They feel fast and are not sticky. Unfortunately, they are much more susceptible to moisture related warping and twisting. Our experience is that hard finished necks seldom warp. Less than 1 out of 200 (0.5%) are returned for warpage. Raw or oiled necks don't fare as well. About 10% are rendered useless from the torture. The more acidic your perspiration, the higher the odds are against you.

If you must play a raw neck, that's cool; it's ok. A neck is just a tool. Just be aware of the risk. If yours does the pretzel act, we don't want to hear about it.

Well, if you take good care of it and wash your hands every time before playing. And it is in an environment that has a pretty constant temp and humidity, then it might be okay for a while.

And I strongly recommend NOT sanding down a neck thru guitar...

yea i have plenty of time, i aint that experienced but i have help from my family and friends who all know their stuff. So it should be good. I think i ll just keep to basic things like changing pickups and putting in a floyd. The idea of sanding down the neck seems now to be a bad idea. Anyways cheers for ure ideas, wheres the best place to get pickups? bearing in mind i live in england

i might try ebay

Ok, seems like your not really do any customizing then... your just replacing the bridge and pickups.

But if you do plan to maybe refinish the guitar or something check out this link http://www.projectguitar.com/menu/tutorial.htm

That flame top is sexy! Put some http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electro...ding_Paint.html in those pickup cavities.. trust me.

And for a Kahler you would actually have to fill in the spring cavity and floyd route then re route for the Kahler.. just throw a floyd on their, that top is way to nice to mess up.

eBay's useless for alot of pickups, I looked there for an X2N when I was after one and couldn't find much, and nothing new. If you've got an American pal who'll order and ship stuff over to you, try musiciansfriend.com, that's where I got my X2N from and it was ridiculously cheap

Bear in mind that the X2N is absolutely shit if you want to play clean through it, it's constantly breaking up my clean channel and the gain is really low on it. It sounds nice when distorted to hell, although I had to work with my EQ for a bit just to get it sounding nice and meaty

Would the turbocharger circuitry work with passive pickups? I thought the thing had to be used in tandem with EMG active pickups

hey thanks dudes, especially BLS for the shielding paint, i forgot about needing some of that. Pickups wise i m probably going to get either a x2n for the bridge and a 59 for the neck or some active emgs prob the 81/60 setup. Im also contemplating getting some Planet waves auto trim tuning machines, has anyone used them before?. Also do musiciansfriend ship to england? I think i read that they do, i ll prob go and check.

My main question is my selection on what bridge to use. I m probably gonna get a floyd instead of a kahler as i cant find any for cheap. My main question for the floyd is how do i make sure i get the correct floyd and that it fits in the posts which were for the previous bridge? Can i just buy any floyd and chuck it in or does it have to be a specific size/width?

Many thanks

P.S i ve posted on the project guitar forum but no one helped me

how much extra would need to be routed for a kahler trem.
