im thinking of getting a guitar tutor, do you think there is anypoint?
because i've noticed a lot of people are teaching them selves these days.
just wondering what the advantages and disadvantages are of having one.

advantages:
-You will learn how to play the way most people do, and you won't be playing in any deformed ways that are harmful to your playing.
-Depending on How good he/she is, most teachers know techniques for most playing styles, and you can just bring in a cd and they will be able to figure it out by ear.
-You can learn broad varieties of techniques, as opposed to just the music you like.

dis:
-The teacher might be a moron and teach the wrong ways of playing things, this can be easily fixed by knowing other guitarists to consult.
-Money.

So if you got money and you know some people who can direct you the right way, definetly try a teacher, unless you wish to inspire on your own.

You learn a lot faster with a teacher. You can learn a lot of different styles, but not a lot do metal. Thats the bad thing. Theres this one guy around here that can teach shred and stuff like that real well. I think I'll check him out.

thats the kind of teacher i wanna get
but theyre hard to come by, especially in the uk
but either way, i just wanna get taught how to play...properly coz i went to my mates house to day with another friend and they both have been playing for 2years and are both awesome. so i felt like shit coz i've only just started and i can do fuck all. and so i want to make sure i get a lot better within 2 years to either get to their standard or beyond.

lol, i'l leave my life story there :P

Ask them then. Lots of people I know who can play guitar knows someone who can teach. If your friends are really good, they could even teach you some really simple stuff to get you started.

the best would be to find a guitarist in your area and jam with him/her...that way you keep getting tips from that person and also a lot of guidance.
