MISERY INDEX!
Who here are fans?
Myself, I saw them live awhile ago, and still can't get over how intense they are.

I saw them live not to long ago myself, they were playing Neuraxis and a local band called Vortex. It was a pretty awesome show and they really knew how to get the crowd worked up, since we had a pretty fucking crazy Moshpit going.

I was forced to sit through some hardcore at the last New England Metal and Hardcore Festival I went to. I think Misery Index was there. I couldn't stand any of the hardcore.

I like Misery Index, they’re still no Dying Fetus though. John and Jason were like The Nelsons of death metal. Plus Jason cut his long beautiful hair. WHY!?!?!
Oh and did Vince leave Dying Fetus?

Yes, Vince left. I find it funny how Gallagher has been the only original member for ages, and the amount of members that have come and gone. Easy to tell who the asshole is.

Yeah, they are pretty sweet. Sometimes they have too much of a Fetus sound, but thats understandable regarding the circumstances.

In saw Misery Index supporting Nile and I was quite impressed by them - I just haven't got round to buying one of their albums.

Misery Index is a great band. Despite constant comparisons to Dying Fetus, they have a distinctive sound. I guess people just pretend like Misery Index exhibit the same hardcore/punk influences that are so prevalent in Dying Fetus' work. Misery Index are just straight up, brutal, new school tech death. Two different bands, two different sounds. Both are great.

Well its kinda hard not to compare Misery Index to Dying Fetus considering its Dying Fetus minus John Gallagher.

In ways. Grind will always be reminiscent of hardcore, punk, and the like.

Its probably just me but when I listen to grind or hardcore I don't say, "Hey, this kinda sounds like punk." I just don't hear it.

Wrong. John Gallagher is Dying Fetus and always has been. He's the only constant in the band, as well as being the main songwriter. The only member of Misery Index who was with Fetus from the beginning is Jason Netherton. Sparky and Talley both joined later. The only album all three of them were on was Destroy the Opposition. As a matter of fact, that's the only album Sparky was on. Talley isn't even in Misery Index anymore, and Sparky wasn't even part of Misery Index when they released their first EP.
Basically, here's what we have so far-
Two current members of Misery Index were formerly in Dying Fetus.
One of those members only appeared on one DF album.
One of those members wasn't even an original member of Misery Index
I guess if you want you could say Misery Index is a revolving door of everybody mad at him, but I'm not sure how that could be considered Dying Fetus without John Gallagher.

Its just that Jason and Sparky were both on Destroy The Opposition, then quit and formed Misery Index. I see it as they both came fresh from Dying Fetus and formed their own band. That's why everyone compares them to Dying Fetus. Hell, when Retaliate came out I remember reading a magazine and saw a article that said: Misery Index, a band made up of former members of Dying Fetus.

Yeah, I see what you are saying. I'm not really criticising you for this, I'm basically complaining about those same people writing articles that don't let up with Dying Fetus comparisons, which naturally leads to metal fans making constant comparisons.
By the way, it's totally fair to say Misery Index was formed largely by former Dying Fetus members. It's just inaccurate to say that they are Dying Fetus without John Gallagher, for a lot of reasons. Personally, I like both bands a lot. Personally, I don't feel like listening to either right now. I feel like listening to something lighter. I feel like listening to Rush.

Rush, now that's a band I'll never get tried of. It's kind of odd, I'm wearing my Destroy the Opposition shirt but I have 2112 playing right now in my cd player. Geddy is one of my gods, along with Les Claypool.

Fuck, yeah. I listened to Permanent Waves today 3 times. One time this dude told me that's the album the went mainstream on, but I have their older albums and a couple of their pop albums, and it sure in hell doesn't sound like it to me. It's fucking brilliant is what it is. Jacob's Ladder might be my current favorite song, metal or otherwise.

can’t really decide which is my favorite Rush song. Its between Twilight Zone, Limelight, or Tom Sawyer. I’ll say Tom Sawyer since the bass solo is the hardest thing I can play.
