Cryptopsy
I'm going to see them in April, and I've had None So Vile for approximately two years. I want to become more familiar with them. In what order should I get the rest of their stuff?

Ask CannibalCorpse, I'm sure he's got some info on them.
Me, myself, he just introduced them to me yesterday, literally.

I liked their stuff with Lord Worm alot better (so, their first two albums)
the music of Whisper Supremacy and And Then You'll Beg is better produced but just doesn't have that morbid feel to it like None So Vile - that's one of my favourite albums of all time. oh and Mike DiSalvo got on my nerves!! good thing the Lord is back!!

They are my favorite band, this is the order you should buy them next:
None So LIVE
Blasphemy Made Flesh
And Then You'll Beg
Whisper Supremacy

Never heard of 'em...
Buy And Then You'll Beg and listen to it in a darkened room for a week. Don't even leave to eat or defecate - shit your pants and eat that if you have to. As good as None So Vile is, I guarantee that you will never again say that it is better than And Then You'll Beg if you give the latter the time and attention that it thoroughly deserves.

John couldn't be more correct. And Then You'll Beg is a fantastic album..but you've really got to look at it's underlying form. Its definatly not an ablum for those that have a Romantic approach to things. The ablum is amazingly innovated and don't expect it to be anything like None So Vile.

He's right, And Then You'll Beg is a fantastic album. But Whisper Supremacy owns all.

I think with Cryptopsy you have to buy their albums chronologically as each release is an extension of the previous. The way they have evolved over the last decade will then appear more seemless and it will make more sense. I used to think like a lot of the 'None So Vile camp' until the good Mr Darko persuaded me to give And Then You'll Beg another listen, another chance if you will.
Sometimes it takes a change of perspective to truly appreciate an album and since you can approach an album from any perspective that you want, you will get something different out of the experience on each occasion. This is only possible with music as challenging as that found on albums such as And Then You'll Beg and Calculating Inifinity: musically linear albums just don't offer the scope for interpretation

Good lad. Just be warned, Mikes vocals are even more "hardcoreish" on this one. It shouldn't make a whole lot of difference though.

Yeah, Lacroix kicks ass!
if ATYB and WS where with Lacroix on vocals man, it'll be fantastic, perfect stuff.

Nile keep getting better and better: Horus only knows what they'll churn out (from the maelstrom) this year. Needless to say it will leave our aural perception in, er, ruins and will bury us under eternal oceans of sand with it's grandiose heaviosity. OK, I'm done with the puns.

Nile are one of the few bands I can say that I have complete faith in to always deliver and always top themselves. I'm also expecting my entire CD collection, not just my Nile CDs, to be buried under eternal oceans of dust after the new album comes out.

Yep. Karl Sanders is physically incapable of releasing a turgid mess of an album and to me, he is the leader of modern death metal.

All Nile rules. Its crazy shit. Masturbating the War God blows me away every time I listen to it. ITDS is just slightly, slightly worse (not the right word) than BSOV, but is still one of my favourite albums.
But..........
Isn't this about Cryptopsy?? And yeah, If Lacroix did WS & ATYB, those albums would (somehow?) be even better.

Even if this doesn't surprise me, i think everybody expected that to happen since this summer, it still sad to learn that Jon Levasseur officially quit Cryptopsy.
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/bl...ewsitemID=32273
I wonder what's next for him. Talented as he is, it will be interesting to hear
what is his next musical direction since it's obvious that it won't be metal.
Flo told me that Dan Mongrain will fill the spot and still go on with Martyr.
They'll probably announce it in a week.

Jeez... Jon is Cryptopsy to me. Ah fuck. This is probably the worst possible news that could break, especially with the new album out this year.

Same here..same here. At least he left us with one more piece to remember him by. I'm trying to be optomistic that the new member will bring a new attribute to the band.

To many, Cryptopsy mainly means Florent Mounier.
To me, Cryptopsy means Jonathan Levasseur just as much. These guys were the duo from hell, their styles suited each other perfectly. As optomistic as I'd like to be, I don't think anyone can write to Flo's drumming as well as Levasseur.

Fear Not Motherfuckers! A juicy update from the site! Some of you may have read this, its a couple of weeks old, but for those who haven't:
Quote:

We would like to begin this update by wishing Jon Levasseur all the best for his future plans and goals. You are an innovator and will remain a true friend. Thank you for your talented contribution to the next album.
2005 will be a big year for us. First, you can have a look at our updated “Back to the Worm” 2005 US tour. Come and check out the band live with Lord Worm back at the helm. Once more, Dan Mongrain (Martyr) will fill in as second guitarist for these shows. Three shows will also be held in Canada this spring.
The recording of the Fifth Album will take place during the summer months of 2005 and the release date will be confirmed thereafter. Each song has a very unique identity and some of the material is a progression from what you’ve heard from Cryptopsy in the past. The Album concept has a very distinct beginning and end. Here are some titles to perk your curiosity: 1.Carrionshine 2.Adeste Infidelis
Look for the anticipated instructional drum video from Flo Mounier to come out this summer. A web site will be launched this spring to give you more specific infos on the DVD’s content and how to order it.
Also, you can now order some of the few remaining Canada 2004 Tour shirts via our web site's merchandise section (in the long sleeve shirts category).
We want to keep you informed, updated and part of the team. Our goal this year and for the future is to make things happen in order to satisfy your Extreme Needs.
See you on tour!!!
|
In Summary:
1. Well we know for sure now (I had some slight doubts) that Jon Levasseur DID write some of the next album. This alone is a cause for celebration.
2. Those track titles reek of LordWormness. This makes me very happy.
3. Only a few more months until that fucking Flo Drum video comes out. I'll be getting it, and I'm not even a drummer.
Finally some constuctive fucking news from the Cryptopsy camp!

I read in an interview with LW that (I think it was) Carrionshine was about insest. I can't remember. Also, the guitarist from Gorguts is doing violins on some tracks.

Fuck. Goddamn I love Luc Lemay, if it wasn't obvious to you already.
Imagine this band:
Lord Worm - Vocals
Luc Lemay - Guitar, Backing Vocals, a whole assortment of other instuments that only he could make sound awesome
Daniel Mongrain - Lead Guitar
Flo Mounier - Drums, Backing Vocals

I agree with what you're saying, but I wouldn't mind some vomiting noises in the mix.

i know most bands arent as great live as stupdio but that was just terrible..... or am i misunderstood?

Well if you're talking about that White Worms live clip, then I agree. But I don't think that would have been exactly how they sounded if you were at that particular gig.

Zabek from Yattering is even better in my opinion. But chances are you won't see the DVD. Try and find it, you will be blown away by the skill and windmills.
