if you're going with Crate, save up for a Blue Voodoo. they are amazing heads
but yea the GLX is pretty nice too if you're intent on getting that one

ive got a glx combo and im not impressed, they have some corny solo channel where you can adjust the shape, and it sounds like shit, and it comes with a bunch of built in effects which is kinda cool but meh, and the "rythem channel" isnt that terrible but its still shitty, i run a dime signature pedal into and its ok i guess, not impressed with it, i wouldnt waste money on a head.

haha....yeah I actually own it (hoping to save up for something better eventually). In terms of power, 120 watts and it's pretty loud, I don't even crank it up that much and it's blastin my ears. But tone wise it's not that good. The clean channel is pretty good. While the rhythm channel is kinda weak. The distortion in the solo channel isn't that bad, but it's got a really messy sound to it. One other thing that kinda sucks on it is that some of the effects are mixed with other ones (ex: when you use flange, it has reverb with it). Overall not a bad amp, the panel lights up and there's a built in tuner, but spend a little more money and you can get something much better.

the BV has THE tightest distortion iv heard, thats why i bought it. lots of highs, plenty of bass, the opposite of muddy. A vintage 80's distortion.
mabe your were too embarased to play with volume above.....zero at the store, lol. any where below 8:00 it sounds like an mt-2, buts thats to be expected with all tube amps. i play at volume about 5-7 (12-2:00); settings: bass: 3:00-5:00; mids: 9:00-1:00 (depends on the sound i want); treb 11:00-1:00; presence: 6:00 (none) - 2:00 gain: anywhere from 10:00 to 3:00 (10:00 for a bluesly crunch 1:00-3:00 for metal

i don't know about it being the "tightest", but it isnt exactly loose and floopy like bls mom when you strum.

Actually, I was able to figure out the numbers and then have plenty of time to give somebody the best fuck they ever had. Maybe I'm just superman, though.

Hey you've never complained!
A good noise gate will tighten up an amp quite alot... i know my ISP Noise Decimator tightened up my 5150.
