Peavey VTM60
I went into the local guitar store the other day and say in the used room they had an old ass Peavey all tube head, so I tried it out and it has amazing tone. Turns out its only $300 so I put some money down and shall be owning it soon. Any comments on this amp?

You really like it that much? My head is a VTM 120 and I'm not terribly impressed with the distortion. You get a great tube sound out of it though. I got the head on eBay for about $130 used, with everything in working order. The thing is a goddamn tank. I run a MT-2 in front of it, and that floats my boat. 
Talk him down a bit, but other than that, I'd say, yeah.

don't know it, they're 80's stuff I think?
probably 6l6, since its an american oldschool peavey, pushing 60 watts tube is nice, you'll be able to get it into tube saturnation to make it sound sweet. Maybe change the preamp tubes for more agressive gain and come up with some other mods to get yourself totally satisfied.

Hehe, 'saturnation'. 
I have 4 6L6 Svetlanas and 4 AX7LPS Sovteks in mine. It just doesnt have much gain. Like a Frank Blackfire sound.

tried cranking it to 10?
I have no idea how these amps sound, so they're pretty low gain I guess. maybe try a proco RAT or a ts9 tubescreamer in front of them to make them scream? |

I usually play it at about 6 or 7, Ill try it at ten this week without any effects.

just load it with nice jj's or something then stick a rat in front of it for more gain if you need it...

When i tested the one at the store, i had the pre at like 7 at the post only at 3 at it sounded awesome. I didnt even really eq it all that much. Plus it has this little mini eq thing where you can boost the highs and lows and add more gain. I'm confident that with some new tubes, some good eqing and a sonic Maximizer and can can amazing tone. Plus, its very nice to have 2 amps from gigging, I dont know if I trust my 5150 anymore.

I use two of them as does the other guitarist in my band, PEAVEY VTM 60's are nice, but Peavey Ultra 60's are nice...
The vtm I use a Boss Ds 2 infront of as does the other guitarist, but a RAT would be really nice too...
Great first tube amp, since you can get them for like 150, it was the first tube amp I owned.
