NEW Immolation video.
Yes, you read right. I have a gift for fellow Immolation freaks and all other associated vermin. A new song + video. What more could you want, besides the album?
http://www.vs-webzine.com/mp3/IMMOL...essing_Ruin.mpg - enjoy, I sure as fuck did.
Much love,
Nihilist.

Oh man, that was dissapointing.
The song just seems a bit more mainstream than before. Gone is the really evil sound, and we are introduced to far more poppy sounding riffs, almost trying to sound like a slower Nile at times. The new drummer sucks (I'm sure he's a good drummer, but Hernandez was the MAN).
They used to have these amazing hooks that made you want to listen to the song over and over. The tempo changes were furious and the breakdowns were genius... The song isn't bad, but it sucks when considering how good Immolation have been for the past 15 years. Almost like they didn't try. Very dumbed down.
I hope that the rest of the album makes up for it, though considering this is the title track (and it clocks in at 4:31, WTF?!?!), I can't say this makes me very hopeful. Now if you'll excuse me:
NP: Immolation - Failure for Gods

I seem to be the only one who listened to the song and didn't succumb to the temptation of blindly (or deafly) loving the song.
I'm all for subjectivity, but this is such a HUGE step down.

It was heavy but vigna freaked out too much in the video.

I thought it was as dark and heavy as ever, also. The "poppy" riff which you are referring to would be the intro riff, yes?
Vigna is always like that, he's a fucking lunatic when he plays.

Of course! I sacrified sleep just to stay up and watch.....although by the time i was done at metaltabs the video had downloaded.
I have mixed feelings about this. I have every release (except Stepping on Angels....blasted!), and this is by far my favorite band ever. But like Abbath, i think it's not up to par. It's good, but it didn't keep me wanting more. I'm going to blame this solely on it being a video, so the sound quality is, and was crap. There was barely any bass to be heard, and the drums were weak.....again, caused by the video quality.
I'm sure that song will sound much better coming out of a stereo once it's released on cd.

Yeah, the quality isn't at best. I do think it is a good song, a great song - but certainly not classic Immolation material. But we haven't heard it in its full glory yet. I'm sure we'll be in for a massive treat when the album is released in February.

Gracias. Loved it. I thought the video as a video was one of the better done ones I've seen too. Yeah it was basically just the band playing but the camera work and double images and shit felt right.

Hmmmm, I seem to be in the minority that thinks that this is nowhere near on par with past title tracks.
I still have high hopes for the album, but am sort of setting it up to be more or less of an off-album.

It wasn't a great song in Immolation terms but still nice to see them on video. And to me the drumming wasn't clear enough to say it was bad, though it's obvious that he isn't as good as the old one.

vigna really does go crazy, if you watch during the part where you see ross's face from the side, they edited different vocal takes so it looks like vigna is popping up from nowhere and transporting around, really cool effect.

This video being my first exposure to Immolation, I think it rocked. I like how they just jam out in the middle there. And the solo was great. One thing that really bugged me, for whatever reason, was the singer and how he didn't have a mic. That voice just seemed too odd. What's a good introduction album, bearing in mind that I liked this song?

Get (in order of importance):
Close to a World Below
Unholy Cult
Failure for Gods
As for the new album, I got the entire release and am pleasantly surprised. It's not as good as their past few, but it's a great release.

Listened to the album last night.
Are Immolation a black metal band? I mean, this is by far the worst produced CD I've heard in years. I'm not a huge fan of the music, but for Christ's sake it at least deserves some punch. The drums lack any kind of power, as do the guitars, hell, everything just seems deflated and extremely flat sounding.
I see even memnoch is disappointed somewhat which is just outright nutty considering he'd let every member of the band bang him in the ass.

As did I.
The production is almost exactly the same as Unholy Cult. I fully agree about the drums. But I was pleasantly surprised with the album. I like it. Alot.
But hey, I'd let them rectally assault me too.

I hate that! The album may be good (of which I haven't heard), but good production can really improve an album's preformance.

i liked the UNholy Cult production. it was extremely dirty which adds to the atmosphere they create. but if you take Failures for Gods, THAT is fucking garbage production. Here in After was much better produced, and it was in '94 while Failures was '97. i can't comment on the new stuff until the REAL CD gets into my hands, not some b.s. downloaded garbage that may not even be on the real CD.

The album is basically the typical Immolation album if they were lazy. The riffs scream of half-assedness.
That being said: Good release.
