There's been so many questions asked over the years about them and a situation did arise with a possible lyric theft that is being handled by an attorney and the original writer. I decided to go straight to the Library of Congress to see what is said about it.

Hope this might help someone out in the future.

If you USPS mail a sealed envelope containing your lyric to your home address it can become copywrited for free from what i've heard. Just don't open it until court....

Yeah, send it registered so it's dated and you have to sign for it. Don't open it unless it's in front of an attorney. If it's sent to D.C. or wherever depending on the country where you live it's documented there and it's even more secure verification. The way I understand it though, just posting it and having the dated thread is good, too. But I really don't trust that option since the forum I usually post a lot at has resets frequently and stuff gets lost. One today in fact.
