Time In The Night
Hey all, I had this published in a book of poetry recently, but I always kind of thought of it as the basis for a song. Let me know what you think. Thanks. RIPDime
Time In The Night
Darkness descends for a Time In The Night.
It's starkness contends with blisters of blight!
Desolate soul strapped in long shadow's abyss,
Mind the toll to be trapped in wrong battles like this!
Black, sweeping in and marching with persistence.
In fact, creeping up and barking with insistence.
I'm not ashamed that sometimes I wonder what's right!
Am I to be blamed that there's Time In The Night?
I think it could be a start for a stompin death metal tune. Feedback?

Yeah, not bad. What book was it and how much did it cost you?

It was published in a compilation called "Eternal Portraits". Didn't cost anything except my purchase price of the book. Basically the deal was, they included it and copyrighted it under my name for free, but I don't get any royalties from this publication.

I was hoping you weren't gonna say the certain publication that gets a lot of people's hopes up. Check into it, but I'm thinking that most publishers give you a free copy of the book. I'm not positive though. I know certain ones do charge in other fields like the Who's Who series so it may be alright. You could p[robably research the publication at the Library of Congress site to see that it is registered there. That may be what they used to pay for the copyright because it was $30 for a single verse last I checked. I'm not sure on book rates.
Anyways, I started a thread offering info about them if anyone wants to check it out where they're done.
And I think you're right about it being a beginning for something. This piece as it is sounds like it should be spoken like the calm before the storm. Not bad at all.

Thanks for the feedback. The funny part is I didn't actually purchase the book LOL. So I haven't sent any money to them but that definitely seems like part of the deal. They make money selling books to the people who are published in 'em.
But ya, I was thinking of buying it and I ended up opting out on the purchase. They asked for another poem for their Best Poets of 2004 compilation and I complied but still didn't buy a book or send them any $$$. They are probably really irritated by me. LOL
I probably should follow up and verify my copyrights though. Thanks.

Yeah, I made the mistake of buying the book mine will be published in. Hmmm, I wonder if we're in the same book actually, is it the one from famous poet's society? That's the one I'm in and I bought it for 30 bucks. I realized it was a mistake because you should never pay to be in a book. It's the other way around.

Hehe I hear ya totally. The two books I'm in are "Eternal Portraits" and "Best Poems and Poets of 2004". Both are yet to actually be produced.

Poetry.com does pretty much the same deal, I wasted some good poems on that. Those kind of publications won't get you anywhere, try sending your poems into publishers and stuff. It's a waste of time, although I never had to pay.

Pretty interesting man. I'd say you should try to lengthen it, although I must admit, if it would have been much longer I probably wouldn't have read it, I'm not real big on poetry...anyway, I did think it was good.
I'll also tell you that I started thinking of Fly By Night by Rush as soon as I read the title, and now I have to listen to the song so it doesn't drive me insane.

Wally, remind me later if you want. I've got the old vinyl of "Caress of Steel" by Rush. It has a pretty cool cover since you were talking about those.
