Ok People. Opinions on the H&K Warp 7...
What do you think of the Hughes & Kettner Warp 7 amp? I know, I know, it's solid state and all that shit. I used to own a M/B Dual Rectifier and honestly you can't really beat that with a solid state. But still, I picked up this Warp 7 1/2 stack for a little less than $800 brand new and I have been really impressed with the sound quality, it's versatility (which a lot of people say it doesn't have, but you just have to play with it, and maybe have a simple effects like Digitech RP100) and it's LOUDNESS! This sucker seems awfully loud to me.
So, who knows a bit about the Warp 7. What are your thoughts? Would you buy one? Tips & Techniques?
Thanks for the feedback.

Ok, well I just read the forum rules and apparently I'm not supposed to start this thread here. Sorry people, I'm a n00b. But if anyone wants to IM me, I'd still love to hear your opinions on the Warp 7. Thanks, RIPDime

why did you get rid of the recto?
this should be posted in gear...
a friend of mine owns a warp 7 and it's no tube amp, but it still sounds ok for its money, its pretty loud and it does sound deep.
its not versatile at all. if you think it is, you must have a banana stuck up your ears... the eq is pretty much worthless, it does not effect the tone as much as it should do. actually, the tone controls are a joke and it's a one-trick pony, but as long as you like the distortion, that's all good.
Depends on what guitar you're using it with too, I reckon. I tried it with a jackson /w emg 81's and an ibanez rg750 with dimarzio's, I also tried it with a 7 string (an rg7620) and you can tell the amp is build for 7 strings somehow.
cleans are not so good, but its a solid state stack for 800 bucks, what the hell do you expect? I think they're good amps for the money, but they don't match up to real amps.
I wouldn't get one, but thats just because I own an Engl powerball and savage which both pound it into the ground If I'de get a H&K, it would be either a Triamp or a Duotone.

I think the Warp 7 sounds horrible. I would never buy one, although H&K makes some pretty nice stuff. I'd probably get a Peavey Supreme XL or something instead...

Got in a financial pinch and had to sell my gear to feed the kids Cardinal sin I know, but you do what you gotta do. At least you get to keep your skill when you sell your shit. I also at that time had a Valley Arts Custom Pro (before they were bought out by Samick and were just a lil custom shop in LA). I paid $1800 for it, was $3k list. That was simply put one of the finest (and most beautiful) guitars I ever laid my hands on.

I'm just fishing for info. I figured the Warp 7 would get somewhat flamed on here, but I dunno, just to see what people think and to find out if anyone has had some experience tweaking it, or using in conjunction w/ various effects systems, etc? Ummm, would rather post and read here than work LOL. I dunno!! By the way, my setup is really pretty cheap (the Warp 7 and a Washburn BT2), but considering the whole package is under a grand, you'd really never know it when I go to jam.
Someone said something about going 7-string. I've played one on the Warp 7 and its definitely the way to go, very chunky and heavy. That'll be my next purchase (thinking Schecter if I can find one in a 7, otherwise prolly an Ibanez or Jackson). The Warp 7 actually has slightly larger speakers and a slightly larger cab than the Marshall half and that makes for some pretty good low end. I'd take the Marshall any day of the week, but it's twice as much money. I'm gonna have to check out the Triamp tho. Thanks for the input.
Does a moderator wanna move this thread to gear? Thanks.

the guy from CC uses 7-string schectors so they do have em
are you talking about the normal 1960 cabs? cause the new mode four cabs they have are bigger then the 1960 ones

The Warp 7 has 4 12" Celestion Rock Driver Jr. Speakers. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the cab outmeasures even the biggest Marshall 4x12 cabs by a couple of inches in every direction, which expands the speaker placement a bit. Can't say I understand why that makes a difference for the low end growl but the H&K definitely seems to have it. Especially if you go dropped-D, or even C, or with the 7-string.

My guitarist has a H&k warp 7, and its bloody loud ! it has a very chunky sound too it. also the cab can take a good beating, weve had it on the road for about a year and a half, and its gone through a lot, its got dents its been dropped severely, and its still going strong, a good amp.
hope that helped

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't really beat mine up too excessively, but it's taken a couple good whacks. The strangest thing that's happened is the drummer I used to jam with had a dog that he would leave out in the rec room to "guard" our gear. He did a good job of marking it as "under his watch" by pissing all over it one day. Oh well, shit happens. No bid deal, but it was kind of funny. Cleaned it up and it still plays just fine

Hahhah that's hilarious
by the way, ignore my comment on the amp, I found out yesterday that the amp I tested was actually been broken for months. The EQ and the Presence knob was fucked up. No wonder it sounded like shit! Seems that it broke during the shipping (or by some jerk kid). Great, NOW they're telling me that...
"Hey, may I try that amp?"
-"Sure, go ahead. Take your time!"
"Great, thanks."
("oh by the way it's broken") ASSHOLES!
anyway, I tried it again today (a new one, not the broken one),
and I got a ok sound from it. Not too bad for a ss at those prices...
sorry

Yeah, you're right. I realized that (see post #8 above), but thanks for keeping me honest anyway.
