I was using Jazz III's but they are just too small
I use big stubby 3mm's only.
Death/Thrash. Mostly Thrash.

Hi, my name's John and I've been addicted to my Martin .98 for the past 6 years. I need a new one, but I don't want to change it because it's so comfortable and I don't know whether I could play death metal without it. It's beginning to dominate my life so that's why I'm here. OK, thanks for listening guys - it means a lot to me.

a really big ibanez not sure how thick pick. It's really comfortable. I mostly use it to play death metal, power metal, thras metal and blues.
I also have a fender 60 mm pick that I like a lot for playing leads.

I have been using Dunlop's 1.14mm Gator Grip for about 3 or 4 years now and I don't plan on changing anytime soon. In fact, I bought about 150 of the damn things at a local Mars Music a few years ago, so it looks like I am gonna have plenty of picks for a long time to come.
I know that the Jazz III is loved by many, but I can't get used to it no matter how long I play with it. I have big hands, so that might be the problem (seems to be the problem, anyway.)

Pic choice...
Dunlop Tortex or Fender .73mm (the yellow ones). I just play my own shit, heavy, progressive metal.
By the way, I don't know if I'm the only one but I start to lose some precision after they start to round off a little and have to go to a new pick immediately. So I get 2-3 days of practice / play if I'm lucky before I gotta go to a new pick.
LOL, unless I can't find any and then I check in the couches, under end tables, drawers, and wherever else until I can find some old rounded off, worn down yellow. That's happened a few times. Even been desperate enough for a pick a time or two that I used the little piece of plastic that used to come on the bread bag. Sigh. Where have all the good times gone?

I had been playing the 3mm 'big stubby'. I thought it was pretty good until I picked up one of my many Jazz IIIs, damn, those are much better.
The red ones kick the black ones asses. Black ones give you bad tone

i used to use the green tortex but i have since moved onto clayton picks, i got these oens with flames on them, i don't know much else about it as i stole them from my old man. they have such an awesome feel i'll never use anything else again.
i play everything but my main band is doom/melodic death/straight metal

i dont even know what kind of pick i use.. its a Gaytyricon logo'd black pick that says Volcano, In Stores Now! that probably came from the package of the album of the same name. some dude who wears fishnet shirts and anal penetrated himself with a microphone (which is a story beyond the scope of this post) left it laying around the band practice shed. I found it and started playing (yeh i washed it first, you cant be too careful), its turned out to be my favorie pick. its probably made of some shizy non guitar pick material and not meant to be used, but damn if it doesnt work pretty good. I've got the standard 1mm and .88 dunlop nylons and .88 and .73 tortex and a 3mm little stubby but I keep using this one.

I've never really had a prefered pick or pick brand, just as long as the pick is decent and is thick.

I know I've answered this in the threads of years passed, but what the hell, I'll answer again. I try to use Dunlop Tortex Standards whenever I can, the gauges either .50, .60, or .73mm, with an extreme preference toward the .60s. Sometimes I have to buy larger or smaller gauges because they are the only Tortex available. Sometimes I even have to buy the nylons, which I HATE, but I need Tortex.
I really wish the music stores around here just stayed stocked in the orange Tortex standard .60s. I'd be a happy man.

i use dunlop's .88's
i play loads of thrash/death style riffs in my band, plus a little bit of lead.
I swear by these picks, they don't stratch up and i use loads of tremolo picking

fast tremolo picks?
i use Jim Dunlop Nylons 1mm for fast tremolo..and i was wondering if theres anything better.. i like the tortex picks but they dont work for me with lead playing.
P.s.. what are those Jazz picks i hear about.. who manufactures it. Hopefully not plectro they are weird..
LoL a funny story with big stubbys...
first pick i ever got..on acoustic..i found it really hard.. i got so mad at the pick i smashed it, cut it up, and hit myself a lot... i dont recommend them

Thicker is better for me because when i shred with a thin pick that fucker starts to bend. I only use thin picks for my acoustic.

Depends on what pick I feel like at the time. I have a small black Gibson pick(used by Kirk Hammet) which is very thin and flexible, but it's too worn out to see the gauge(it reads "medium"). Most of the time I like to use that one, but I also use a Dunlop 1.14 mm frequently. I play thrash, heavy, power, and death metal(little BM too), but I play mostly acoustic instrumental stuff since I don't have an electric guitar yet(stuff like Dissection's "Into Infinite Obscurity" and Morbid Angel's "Desolate Ways", but I finger pick on those).
I also have a Dunlop 1.4mm and 2.0mm, but those fuckers are hard as hell to play with.

when i play live i play only as a lead guitar.so i would stick to the stubby's.dont need to switch picks.ive just switched to this picks.they are kinda small so i had difficulty in using them to play rhytm.maybe it takes some time for me to be comfortable with it.

Dunlop .88mm
The grey ones with a bit of grip at the top.
Light enough so you can strum, but heavy enough so you can tremelo pick.
Change that to 1mm if playing 12 gauge strings (c tuning baby, oh yeah!!)
I normally play black, death, power or dodge tapping stuff a la midnight ( song BTW)

I use........objects. Sometimes I use quarters, and then my string suffers from my laziness to get up, walk across my room and grab the appropriate tool. Sometimes I take guitar picks from my friends, because I always suspect them of doing the same to me....but last time I checked, I use a somewhat - floppy Dunlop U.S.A .58mm
