Recording "gutteral death metal vocals"

Well, story is that i am recording my first couple of death metal tracks for my band these days. And i just cannot seem to get the vocals right, we are of course a death metal band and the growl tend to be very noisy when recorded, what i am really looking for is a very crispy raw and gutteral effect, like when you close your hands around the mic (the only problem is that with the pop-filter and all that shit on the mic, theres no way you can get your hands around it ). The mic is fine, it's a 400 dollar adk studio mic (borrowed). So how should the settings on the EQ be to get optimal sound, and should i put on some preamp effects..? any help is very appreciative.

it's not uncommon for vocalists to bring in a regular vocal mic to the studio, do it.

what noise are you refering to? a decent vocal mic like a shure beta or something should be failry noiseless... and if you're doing it with decent mixing/recording equipment then you should have eq's, compressors,gates,ect....

I'm talking about the "pop"-sounds.. when you blow air into the microphone..
