Just heard an interview on radio from a witness, the shooter was an obsessed "fan" who played Pantera all the time at a local bar. He blamed Dime for the break up of Pantera. He came around the back entrance then to the stage put his arm around Dime and shot him directly in the face twice. R.I.P Dimebag

I heard this on the radio this morning. Fucking shocking. I had to run to the internet to confirm who exactly had been killed. As most of you probably know, I was never a big fan of Pantera. I had (or have) plenty of respect for Dime, however. He was like the fucking Hendrix of metal, man.

I just read the latest report on CNN and it sounds like the shooter was a real asshole. They interviewed a tattoo artist that knew the guy. And there's a small commentary by Ozzy there, too.

I really liked the idea someone said about the old band members doing a tribute album to him. Bury whatever hatchets there are and do the project and then disperse to their other projects. I think the unity would dissolve a lot of past drama and wasted energy on former arguments.

I just wanted to post this. I found this on Type O Negative's website. Ever since I saw Peter pull Dime's pants down on stage in After Dark I knew that they had to be close friends.

I'm not really sure what to say or how to put it in words to describe what I'm feeling at the moment. The world has lost a genuine person, one of the true greats. We've lost a great friend, some have lost an idol, but more tragic than any of that, a father lost his son & Vinnie lost his brother. Since Type O Negative first toured with Pantera in 1995, both bands have remained close friends. No matter how much time would pass, whenever we would get together it always seemed like we had just seen each other the night before. Touring with them was an amazing experience that I still talk about ten years later. I have so many memories of Darrell and all of it included laughter. Hanging out with Darrell, Rita, Vinnie, Pantera and Damageplan was always an adventure. You never knew what was going to happen but it usually wound up with your stomach hurting from laughing so much and a really nasty hangover in the morning.
I know that Darrell was an amazing guitar player and many know him just for that. I would have to take a step back every once in a while to see him for that because that wasn't how I knew him. I knew him to be a very enthusiastic, generous, animated and one of the funniest guys that just happened to be one of the greatest guitarists of our time. He had a way with people that after you met him, you became a part of his family. We always considered him family and we're devastated.
Heaven definitely has its hands full now that Darrell's shown up.
Even though I have written this about Dime, I want to send our condolences to the families and friends of the others that were so senselessly taken away from us on Wednesday night.

Nathan Gale apparently believed Pantera musicians were trying to steal his identity and the lyrics to songs he had written, former friend Jeramie Brey told The Columbus Dispatch in Friday's editions.

Brey recalled that Gale once showed up at his house with some songs he had written, but the words appeared to be copied from Pantera. Gale told Brey he planned to sue Pantera over the lyrics and for stealing his identity.

The violence at the Alrosa Villa club came just after the opening chords by Texas-based Damageplan, the band formed by Abbott and his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, after they left Pantera. Gale dodged two band members, grabbed Darrell Abbott and shot him at least five times in the head, witnesses and police said.

My guitar teacher told me in the middle of class, and I seriously started crying in the middle of class. Who would do this? Dime was more than just an inspiration to play guitar, he was a good human being and role model. It still doesn't feel real. I feel numb. It feels like he's still here, but you know he's not. I don't see why he was to be shot. He didn't break up Pantera, it was Phil's fault. And how the fuck is something like this allowed???????? I wish that guy Nathan Gale had experienced a more painful and slow death. If I got my hands on him, ........... , I don't even want to think about what I'd do.

I've never been a big Pantera fan, but i've also appreciated Dime's talent.....he's far superior to me and will probably always be no matter how hard i practice, so he deserves complete respect.

As for the die hard fans, i think you should just remember the good days of Pantera. The band had their days, they made it big and pretty much put out every song they could produce until the end....so just be happy the guy got a chance to do all this.
