Holy shit... A versus poll that actually makes a fair comparison. Last one I saw was Exodus vs. Testament, I guess the Suffocation-Cryptopsy wasn't so bad... Anyway, I'll always prefer Cannibal Corpse for reasons of nostalgia (they opened up the world of death metal to me), but I could never vote for them if they were matched up against Morbid Angel. CC's newer stuff totally dominates their older stuff (their first three albums were simple as fuck), and Morbid Angel have stayed remarkably consistent. Oddly, my favorite album from both bands were their releases in 1998. FFttF and Gallery are my two favorites. Also odd, my second favorite album by each band are their respective 1991 releases, Blessed... and Butchered at Birth.
Honestly, though, Morbid Angel over their careers shit all over Cannibal Corpse. Better song structure, better writing overall. Cannibal Corpse didn't really start getting complex until their 4th or 5th album and didn't really master the art of technical complexity until their 6th album. Morbid Angel had it mastered from their second album.
I guess one could argue that of their latest releases, CC has the edge. I really did like The Wretched Spawn better than Heretic. If you compare their older stuff, I don't see how any respectable guitarist can pick Eaten Back to Life over Altars of Madness.

I'm not saying they ripped off Kreator at all, but the influence is pretty obvious.

Well everything Cannibal Corpse does had already been done by bands like Morbid Angel. Cannibal Corpse also did alot to popularize death metal until it became flooded with potential for money like most genres. Morbid Angel also had less generaic song structures than the pop model that CC uses. I love the desincrinization and the ambience of the morbid angel death metal. That's all just personal preference though, but on that note I would also like to say CC is borring. Lame uninspired gore fest lyrics with no real meaning behind them. CC singer is also in six feet under, so no credits there. What a bad band CC is, damn; this shouldn't even be a question.

MOrbid Angel hands down... The drummer from Cannibal Corpse does blast beats with his right hand, and Pete Sandoval does most with his left, and his cymbal tip-bell combos are awesome. The drummer from CC lacks ideas for beats, as for Morbid Angel, they get pretty innovative and add drum solos in between a song or two. But as for Cannibal Corpse, I was watching the making of the wretched spawn and I think that shit is technical as fuck compare to MA's new stuff. But MA's albums never sucked ass, as for CC, there were few in my opinion but by far Gallery Of Suicide and Tomb Of The Mutilated were great.
So my conclusion is this, MORBID ANGEL own.

Morbid Angel is my favorite. I think they are a lot more original and David Vincent is THE best death metal vocalist. I also like Trey's riffage more than Owen's...its more of a doomy/haunting style instead of consistant brutality

I would definitely say that Morbid Angel is more talented, though I'm still amazed by some of CC's guitar work. Granted, I'm a pretty shitty guitarist and hardly ever play anymore. As far as just liking them better, I can't decide...but I do have something which should side me towards MA...
