Mayhem is satanic no doubt about it. Not only that they're the most evil band ever. I remember on VH1's 100 Most Metal Moments they did the whole Mayhem suicide/murder story. But after that they did something on Slayer and some guy said "Slayer is the most evil band on the face of the planet". Did that guy even see the Mayhem segment? Slayer never comitted suicide or murdered anyone. Of course being insanely evil isn't isn't the reason Mayhem is my favorite black metal band, they just fucking own. Well at least their old stuff.

The Satanic Bible is a philosophical tract preaching the assertion of the self as ego, basically with the idea that the world is in a position to attack you and take things away from you. It follows a lot of the ideas of Aleister Crowley and some of those of Nietzsche and basically goes about reversing the morality in the Christian Bible - if somebody punches you in the face, you don't turn the other cheek; you hit that motherfucker back twice as hard. As the Satanic Church it basically turned into a circus show, right up to the required entry fee. Either way I'm not too huge a fan of it; it's a lot of wasted time theorizing around a childish worldview. Also, either way, it doesn't really have to do with the worship of Satan - most of these people are Atheists - except as a symbol; he's a representation of defiance and the attitude of non serviam.

Not a new symbol of it, either; just a handy one. In a similar mode of thinking we see Varg claiming that his earlier Satanic lyrics were meant to simply symbolically represent his true beliefs in a digestible form; if you say you're for Satan, everybody automatically knows who and what you're against.


They need to kill a minor villain from a Tolkien novel so that Euronymous never died? Oh! You mean Varg? You can't kill him: he's not a man; he's a horny being.


People will always give Slayer that title, even if they're no more evil than I am. Or, if not them, somebody like King Diamond. There are probably more evil bands than Mayhem (depending on what you feel it takes to be evil, Michael Jackson is), but none so blatantly stupid about it. No offense intended to their music.

Abruptum are a project created by a good friend of Euronymous, IT. Their first few albums came out on Deathlike Silence Productions. The band was created by two but one left so Morgan from Marduk came in under the name Evil. Anyway, to cut a long story short, they tortured themselves to get the screams just right. The music was dark and in the wrong mood could drive you to suicide. It was a known fact that they drove their bass player into attending a Christian church. How could a band like that fail to be more evil than Mayhem?

Well, not to seem like an ass or anything, but to me there is no greater sin or form of evil than murder or suicide (well maybe suicide isn't that extreme unless done in the name of Satan or something ). Mayhem's violent past contains both. There are some christians who say lying is just as bad as murder, but that's just stupid. But from what you say, Abruptum seems pretty damn screwed up so I got to check them out. I'll put them number 2 on my evil bands list.

There was a story going around saying that IT was involved with a murder but I'm not sure if it was true. He did a few projects and there's a new one out now. I don't know if you'll find any Abruptum. Your best bet is to find Nordic Metal but that's more... uh .... "musical" Abruptum so to speak. Their real stuff is hour long tracks.

Listen to Darkthrone's early albums, these albums are really good and include very evil atmospheric music.

I think that Mayhem should quit or something like that, two of their pioneer members (Euronymous and Dead) are both Dead. Both who made all the music and the lyrics back then, when their music was good.

Commiting suicide doesnt mean you are evil. It means you are a pussy. Especially when done in the name of Satan. It's the easy way out of everything.

Decripify- I gather you're the type that thinks Mayhem should of died on August 10th 1993. I used to but look at the talent that was still left behind. It's gone now but...
As for Abruptum, I enjoy it. You have to be a little more open minded to enjoy it I guess. It's not just a noise, it's an art form so therefore it is music. If that's how IT wanted to express himself then who are we to judge.
Anyway, getting back to the topic.
Nocturno Culto- It depends who writes the music. I think it might have something from De Mysteriis' (vocalist, drummer). Lets just say that I don't think they have anything more to loose.

I think that music should have a some sort of structure and some limits of making it, not just IT's screams while he mutilates himself or something like that. Avant-Garde is a very good thing in music, but, well some limits could be fine even for it. Maybe some people consider all audial forms of art as for music and that's fine, but I'll rather not.
Hmm actually Abruptum's De Profundis Mors Vas Cousumet from Nordic Metal was a descent song, maybe because it is much more musical.

IT does actually sing, my brother reckons it's in latin, a real torture way.

The name says it all , Swedish blackmetallers Vondur ( a side project of IT ( Abruptum , Ophthalamia ) and ALL ( Abruptum ) ) are back with a new mini cd featuring 7 tracks , 4 of which are covers of artists such as , Bathory , Motley Crue , and Elvis Presley . All of the cover songs remain similar to the originals in a sort of rocky blackmetal format except for ‘Love Me Tender’ which goes into hyperdrive and adds a new spin to the songs ending . Two new tracks appear , one of which makes an impression the other is fairly poor , and a English remake of ‘Dreptu Allur’ ( now Kill Everyone ) from their debut album . If the cover songs aren’t embarrassing enough , IT and ALL also degrade themselves in the albums photo shoot transposing their corpse painted faces over images of Motley Crue ( 80’s mullets and all ) and Elvis ( in full flared costume ) renamed ALLvis Presley . A rather shameful disappointing end to Vondur’s days .

You be right . Vodur only ever relised two albums and they were to show IT's humourous side. They were the summer band, Abuptum was winter (obviously), Ophthalamia Autumn and his black metal act, War, was spring.
