Recording Gear, etc.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me of some good but not really really expensive recording gear? I wan't to be able to record my own songs since I don't know of anyone around here that is into the music I am into so thought that since I play drums, guitar and can play bass that I would make my own songs by myself and record one thing at a time and put it all together. Some people told me to go with some computer software and do it from there but I have NO clue on how that works. Any help on everything I will need would be greatly appreciated. I wan't something that will sound really good but also wan't to stay in the price range with everything I need in the 3000 dollar range or maybe 5 but try and stay in the low 3 thousand dollar range (US dollars).
Thanks a lot for any help given, it's greatly appreciated.

Make a good pc, get a pirated version of Pro Tools or Cubase, get a nice sound card and some mics.

BLS suggestion would save shitloads of money, so you'd have some money to spend on hookers and such .

Heh, we've got our own Varg Vikernes! ( no offence!)

Alright I see. Thanks for the help then. I need a new computer anyways since mine only have 4 gigabytes and is the biggest piece of shit ever. Is there any way that I can get a decent computer for recording under 1000 bucks like around 800 dollar range? Also how would I attatch mics on it and all and mix with it, etc? How much would the software things be and all those other things? Sorry for the many questions but I don't know much at all about recording. I do a lot of sound stuff with mixing boards and a little recording for a church (yeah I know you guy's don't probably go to one but I play drums for one, do the lights and the sound too) but it's different than me wanting to record my own songs and all.

Alright man, I checked it out, it kinda helped. Next questions I have is, will doing it on the computer have a real good sound quality? Also I saw something on there about how getting higher quality CD's burnt will last longer. Do burnt cd's that I make and download and then burn get messed up after a while or something or what's up with that? Reason I ask is because all my cd's I burn, after a while they start skipping and make weird noises and they aren't even scratched???

You can make a PC 100% capable of recording and playing games for about $700 if you shop smart www.newegg.com

You connect the mics to the pc through the high end sound card you will buy, mixing can all be done on the PC.

The software will be free..

you should buy a decent mixer... then some sort of easy to use interface to hook it up to your computer to... then a program like protools would make things sweet.
then some nice monster mic cords, a nice little shure drum mic package, some stands and clamps... some sort of studio condenser for guitars n' such...
a di box, speaker simulator,ect...

from there you just kinda need to goof with it all until you get it right...

those are the basics... should be no sweat for under $3,000
from there you can get even more little extra goodies like compressors, eq's, gates, patchbays, fx units, tube mic preamps, ect.
