marshall jcm 800 or 900?

Which is going to give the best tone for metal...and there are about 30 models between the 2, does anyone use these or like them? Im looking for an inexpensive used head and I need some advice. Thanks.

i like the jcm 900's better, more gain, sharper tone... the 4100 is fucking way clear sounding, but my favorite is the slx model(it has quite a bit more gain) and a slightly different overall tone.

the jcm 800's sound fucking good though, they need help becoming brutal, but they love pedals....

I own a JCM 900 2500. My first choice was to go with a SLX but I just couldn't find one for the right price. The SLX was built to improve the JCM 900 2500 MarkIII.

I say, go for value. Check out prices on harmony central and go for something that's a good deal. Once you have one, you will be able to compare from there. Plus, they are pretty good on the market for resale.
