Hey I have an ibanez rgt42 since july (more or less) and this guitar is great!! it sounds very good in hi-gain amps, and the neck-thru body is more comfortable and with more sustain than a bot on guitar,

differs from person to person...
i prefer my rg570 comfort wise over the rgt42... and it still has tons of sustain.

Of course, the person who buy it has the last word, so try it, try others and make a choice

look at what you just said, have you played an ibanez rg570?
i have played both... otherwise i wouldnt have commented...

my rg570 has a sanded down wizard I neck... to me that's SOOOO much more comfortable than the rgt42's neck.. and still delivers plenty of sustain.

I couldnt try a 570, in my town we only have two instruments stores and they dont have a good stock. I tried esp MII, Jackson SL3 some kramers...and i prefer my rgt, it is a very good guitar for me cos it has all what i want so, i dont need anything more (just an emg-81 hahah)

Hay I'm considering buying the RGT42 but i wanted to know

Firstly how does the RGT42 neck feel seeing as it doesn't have the natural finish on the back of it like most ibanez bolt-on necks? is it gripy or "sticky" or does it have the same smooth feeling as the natural finish necks?

Secondly does the neck through wizzard two neck feel very different from a bolt on wizard two neck? (in regards to shape size etc) because i played an RG370DX and realy liked the feel of the neck and found the upper fret access realy nice and comfy. (i would buy that guitar only i dislike shark tooth style inlays and i want a black guitar, sustain is good to)

thanx

it's still made to be shaped in the wizard style... so it should feel very much like a bolt on version. as for the finish, the natural finish is just a different look, but it's still glossed over and stuff so it pretty much feels the same as a painted one.

Huh? the RGT2020SOL I played didn't have a glossed/painted over neck!!

way different feel then my RG750. still smooth as hell and I noticed it was a lot lighter then my '89 RG. the RGT's sustain should be better, didn't notice too much of a difference to a bolt-on but the way you can reach up the high frets is great! (as in, you don't have the bolt-on system where the body gets in the way, my RG doesn't have an AAJ yet...)

I liked it. and I would definetly prefer it above a regular RG. it was an RGT2020 that I played. it has an all natural finish (so does the neck, it's NOT finished. or at least this model was not.)

the coloured versions like the 3020 and RGT-3020 QMSPB might have a finished neck to match the body colour. but the 2020 did not have a finished neck, the wood reminded me of my ibanez sr limited edition prestige bass, same smooth feel on the neck (it's also unfinished on my bass and also bubinga.)

The RGT seemed to have a smoother neck then my own RG though that has been played in for years and its a real player. it's still damn smooth but that RGT I played was like running a hot knife through butter. I remember it wasn't cheap though, else I probably would have bought it, but I found a better deal on another guitar..

they only had the 2020 in germany which is the prestige, the others differ in specs, tone and probably the neck finish too.

did some searching, http://www.ibanezrules.com/namm/200...ga_prestige.htm

there you can see the differences and all rgt models. I noticed the lower end models have a finish on the body/headstock, so prolly on the neck too. the prestige I played did not have a finish on the neck, so my bet is, the prestige's are all natural!

proof the lower end models do have a finish:

i've never played an ibanez(or really any other guitars) that came stock with a raw wood neck... i'm not sure i'm understanding you correctly.... or you're not understanding me.

I'm understanding you, it has a raw wooden neck. thats the reason it was even more smooth then my own RG, which surprised me. Find an RGT2020 and be amazed yourself!

lmy SR ltd prestige bass has a bare wooden neck too, the wood has been treathed against taking in sweat and stuff so it doesnt damage the neck, but it doesn't have the 'glossy' finish RG's normally have. the rgt2020 I played had a unfinished neck too.

I've played a some guitars that had an unfinished neck, a custom strat, the rgt and some gibson that was sanded down.

Thats called a satin finish Def. No company would sell a guitar with a raw maple neck, thats just stupid.

that's what i was thinking...

i have my rg570 sanded and stuff for the nice raw feel... but it's my own choice and overtime(a long time) it might bite me in the ass... a top notch brand like ibanez wouldnt sell them raw.. especially not the top of the line ones...

Exactly... the necks would be like bananna's after the long trip from Japan to America.

Satin finish eh?

so thats like a super-thin coating or something? it didn't 'feel' finished. my bass doesn't 'feel' finished either because it simply isn't. (as in a thick layer or something) the wood feels natural but you can tell it's been treathed with something, it's way more smooth then any finished neck.

I don't think you're understanding me right here, it's not the regular ibanez finish at all. go try an rgt-2020 and find out. the lower end models do have a normal painted neck and the usual finish. my RG's neck doesn't have a finished 'colour' on it too but it HAS been finished with transperent stuff which makes it stick way more then that RGT did, the RGT did not have this finish.

my bass does't have the transperent finish either and its just fine. it's a 5 string and has way more tension then any guitar so I guess the neck will be fine. btw, it aren't maple necks. its wenge/bubinga just like my bass has.

A satin finish means its smooth, not glossy. Your 750 most likely had a stain finish but now its all glossy right? Thats because over the span of ten years all the sweat from your hands created a polishing effect on the satin finish.

Nah my RG has a regular finish, I'll get a pic of it tomorrow, but I know what you mean with the satin finish, your rg7 has it too, right? a friend of mine has an RG7 too and I remember his had a way different finish.

the RGT-42 doesn't have a satin finish, it has a finished neck and it has that sticky/plastic feeling neck. So there's two kinds of finish and the prestige's have a satin finish?

Yeh, the satins not shiny its been buffed so much. My rg7's are getting all "slick" right now.. gonna have to use some #0000 steel wool and get it back to satin feel.
