Looking for cheap deals
When it comes to used gear, I'm a huge fan. I love buying cheap crap that people just seem to throw away; it excites me. Anyways, I've been messing around with my guitars a lot but they just don't have that sparkle i'm searching for. I was thinking of searching for some older Ibanez models (when I talk about shred, someone always seems to bring up old Ibanezs. Today's models dissappoint me though), but I don't know what to look for. Any suggestions? If possible, I'd like to stay away from floyds (tremelo is fine though), in body jacks (as in there is a cavity so that the butt of the cable isn't poking through), and smaller necks. I need a nice beefy guitar that will let me fly. My JS100 is alright, but it has been pissing me off lately. My Godin SD is a beast, but its frets are just too small for my fingers. I guess what I'm looking for is a nice older model guitar that is relatively easy to do basic matinence on (string changes, intonation, maybe even neck adjustments). Again, I'd like to look more for used, older model gear rather than new gear; it has a certain niceness to it.

If you're into "poking around" with your guitars on a more down and dirty level, you could either refret that Godin or (what I'd suggest, if you feel comfortable doing it) scallop its neck. http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/scal1.htm would be a good start on that idea. Think about it a bit first though, you wanna be sure scallopping "is for you" before you do anything.
And the reason I'm saying all this is because I can't really offer any advice on your original question.

If your looking for older Ibanez's, you should search for some of the older Iceman and Destroyer models. I haven't played any of the old destroyers, but I did get the chance to play on a metallic Teal Iceman. She was a sweet one. It had a rather thin neck, for me at least, but I do have big hands. Anyway, either of those models would do. Or you could try searching on ebay and www.musicgoround.com for some older carvins.

An american made Fender Heavy Metal Strat - I have two of them, nice sanded neck and nice playing action, kahler spyder bridge and have dimarzio super distortion as stock > trhey were made about 88-93 i think and the ones i have are awesome and trhey are reasonable on price.
Just search eBay for "hm strat" there are a few on atm!
Another nice guitar is a 80's kramer Pacer, i have one of these and its killer, smaller neck than the fenders....lacks the beefy tone of the fender imho.
Charvel model 6's are nice also, my lodger has one (Y)

or oldskool RG's with the real trems.
I agree on Kramers, great guitars too. if you can, get your hands on a friggin stagemaster pro, they just about owned all metal guitars those days and they still kill most of the competition. shame they're pretty rare and go for pretty high prices most of the time.

I got an '82 Ibanez rocket roll II , I love it. It needs some decent pickups and there is a bit of fret wear on the first few frets on the top string. i really need some money.

An Ibanez Rocketroll or Destroyer with a Kahler trem, mmm that would be something.
