Hoffman Brothers Leave Deicide
I was just on Metal-Archives.com and apparently the band announced last week (the 25th to be exact) that Brian and Eric will no longer be with the band due to them "cancelling and walking off many shows among other personal issues". As of now, Vital Remains guitarist Dave Suzuki is listed as guitarist for the band, but whether he will be a permenant addition or not is not stated. Any comments?
I find this almost funny as I was thinking the other day that Deicide has managed to keep the same lineup since their inception as a four piece (quite a rarity in not only extreme music, but music in general). It's also a shame since Scars... is, in my opinion (and I'm sure the opinions of many others) their best album in years (and one of their best in my opinion) and showed so much promise/pontential for the future.

Hmm, I'm quite surprised by this. If Dave Suzuki joins permanently, there surely wont be a need for both Deicide and Vital Remains to exist concurrently.

My friend sent this to me:
The bitterness comes from Glen because he resents the fact that I don't condone his serious drug addiction. When faced with a decision like this it was very difficult for me, expecially after all these years but I really had no choice. There is no reasoning with a person like this and everything Glen Benton said in that interview is false. He showed up once in 6 months while we were writing Scars of the Crucifix and then wrote half the lyrics in the studio AFTER we recorded it and didn't know any of the bass lines so Eric played them! This argument could go back and forth forever but the camera doesn't lie.
have some hilarious video footage of him in the studio trying to play the songs on the bass. I guess now I'll have to dig around for it LOL!
Oh, and as far as cancelling tours Glen cancelled the Super Joint Ritual tour and any other tour he didn't think he could make enough money on.
His addiction is now so bad that he rips off his own band members.
I wish Steve and whoever else who has to deal with this person who has no more bridges to burn, good luck. Mabe they could teach Glen how to play that bass.
As far as the Hoffmans......we are working on a side project and I will continue working on my luthier skills."-Brian Hoffman
I was mad when i first heard that they broke up but after i read that, i dont blame them for leaving. Its pretty cool i got to see them with the original line-up.

Wow, that's damn sad. Scars is a great album, I remember watching the making of the Scars Of The Crucifix DVD for the first time not so long ago, The Hoffmans seemed pretty happy in it. I thought Benton only smoked tobaco and weed and drank alcohol, didn't think he did anything harder. Besides, I don't think they can afford coke. Just because they're well known musos doesn't mean they have money to trow away.

That's not, properly speaking, addictive and would be fairly easy to wean him from if he was even slightly responsive. Since he doesn't seem to be, it may very well be coke. Glen doesn't make much sense in the interview on Blabbermouth, but I don't remember an interview in which he has. Most of them have him blurting out that he's on shrooms or something, though. Actually, I remember when he gave out his msn messenger name, and he didn't seem too on-the-ball then, either.
And they can afford it. I know people who make less money than reasonably well-known, signed, professional musicians who can afford cocaine on an otherwise tight budget. Anyway, you can always find money for a drug habit, if you really want one.
I'm not yet sure how much I care about this.

deicide fucking sucks, they are such a shitty band, glen benton has some of the worst vocals i have ever heard, and their lyrics are so gay, you can only go so far with the whole anti-christianity thing, i mean seriously, how many different ways are you gonna say "i hate god" before people stop caring. i dont blame them for leaving deicide, that would get so old after a while, i mean, i nearly pissed myself laughing at the lyrics to bible basher.

My thoughts exactly...
Didn't he also plan to kill himself when he turned 33 or something?
I also heard somewhere that he wouldn't fly abroad because the plane took him too close to heaven.. not sure I believe it though...

let's hope the Hoffman brothers come up with some great stuff from now onwards.
as for Deicide, they were there when Florida became the cradle of death metal in the late 80's. like them or not, show some respect.

that's moronic. that shows that he believes that heaven exists which is as bad as preaching christianity itself.
however i will admit i have not heard deicide yet, and that wont stop me from hearing their tunes, and that wont affect my judgement of their tunes.

You have to really believe in God to be a Satanist. However, I don't think Glen is. It seems to me that when he was younger he got very into it and said a lot of things he can't retract and did a lot of things (such as burning an upside-down cross into his forehead) that can't be undone. Recent interviews show him to be the drunk druggie from Florida he is, who's written himself into a Satanic corner but doesn't really ecstatically talk about it. Unlike other prominent youthful Satanists in metal, he doesn't try to deny ever having been young and stupid; he just doesn't really play that role anymore. At least not in interviews. Which, as I said before, were probably taken for the most part while he was shrooming, and are pretty funny.
He claimed he was going to kill himself at 33 so he could commemorate the death of Christ in blasphemy and blah blah blah. For those in suspense: he decided against it. Or he's just really lazy. It's just another matter of him being young and dumb and not going through with it. I know some old Deicide fans who wish he had, but that's pretty pointless. Even if he is a major-league ass.
Deicide have their moments, but it's been a long while since I listened to them.

I'd hate to start an argument about shitty music with you, but you listen to a few crap bands that IMO, Six Feet Under could top any day.
Now back to the Deicide thing. I suppose that Glen Benton can be stupid a lot, like that not flying bullshit because he'll be closer to heaven, but if somone is gonna preach the anti-christ that much, then they'll have to accept the fact there is a christ, otherwise he'll just look like an idiot. Deicide splitting up is a damn shame though.

Agreed.
IMO they are a buch of slayer copy cats.
Also, back in the day the lead singer use to brag about hurting little animals (mice and such), hes too much of a pussy to hurt a human, becuase a 5 year old girl could kick his ass.

Any day that a "satanic" band breaks up is a good day in my book.
Deicide's self titled debut blew me away when I first heard it (and for many years after, come to think about it) but I no longer have any tolerance for all of the satanic bullshit that exists in Death Metal. That does not leave me much to listen to (I have thrown away most of my collection) but that is the way it is.
It is a shame that so much of the new talent thinks that they need to "hate God" to be part of the genre. I'm not saying that they have to praise Jesus or anything, but it would be nice if the few of us who have gotten our pubes had something "non-satanic" to listen to.
(How was that for sounding like your dad?)

yeah, its been a while since i last updated my favorite bands, that has been there since i first joined probably, so alot of my taste in music has changed. yeah, six feet under is better than some bands, but barnes is a shitty vocalist, and the guitar work is very simple, the same with deicide, horrible vocals, the guitar work isnt too bad, but its nothing special, pretty standard death metal, hell, on scars of the crucifix, you can barely hear the guitar over his shitty vocals.

I'm more inclined to believe this than anything Glen has to say about it. I hope the Hoffman's do something really awesome instead of just fading into obscurity, which is what I expect them to do.

I was/am suprised that Steve didn't leave with them, however, I won't be suprised if what the old Hoffman boys come up with (if anything) is far superior to anything the new "Deicide" might come up with...or maybe not, you never know.

Steve is, allegedly, Glen's bitch. There's rhythm section unity against those damn guitarists.
I have no idea what to expect from the Hoffmans. Didn't Arsheim write the majority of Deicide's music? It could be something completely out of left field.
