Marshall Powerbrake

First of all Hi, I've just registered to the forums, but I've been reading threads for a while now.

I basically want to get straight exactly what this thing does.

It's a power attenuator right? Is it a sort of master volume meaning you can crank up your tube amp and adjust the output volume via the powerbrake?

When I can't crank my amp too much that loses me tone, so I'm looking into this.

I use a Marshall JCM2000 DSL50 thru a 1960B cab.

Thanks.

Exactly. Its a power attenuator, meaning you can drive the tubes harder without increasing the actual volume of the amp. So you can play at bedroom volumes with a nice saturated tube sound.

thats awesome ive never heard of such a thing, so you can get full tube sound/tone/balls without making it to loud, ive always wanted a tube amp but i know i would have to turn it up loud to get a good sound out of it, but with such a device, this would be awesome

well, i find the more you attenuate the worse it can sound too... alot of people forget that awesome sound they're getting has alot to do with the color of stressed speakers.

so even with an attenuater it's still not going to be the same... just better than if you turned the volume down on the amp...

tube amps sound great at any volume, they just get better the more they are cranked. ......until a certain point.

whoever said they were thinking about a DSL, dont get a TSL instead, the DSL's are nice, but i couldn't find a tone as nice as my tsl on the DSL even though they are very similar.

i agree, i tried both the dsl and tsl before i got my tsl. although the dsl was good when i played through the tsl it blew it away IMO

i disagree, it really depends on the amp... not all sound good at low volumes...

as for theuntil a certain point... it also depends on the amp, normally on a good tube amp i like it dimed.

that's more of an opinion, the tsl just has more options, they're tonally very similar amps... some people like one more than the other. the dsl is three channels, but two of them share an eq, the tsl has 3 separate eq's for each channel... there is a little more than that... but most people see more knobs and a higher price tag and think it must be better, just like if you look at the 5150 II's, more knobs and a higher price tag, as well as the II part that makes it look like it's an "UPGRADE"(more of a step sideways imo),while some people still prefer the standard 5150(though i don't)...
i could make comparisons like this all day.

Yeah, stressing the speakers can even be said for solid state amps... so basically, change in volume=change in tone.
