line 6 spider II 30watt
is the line 6 spider II 30watt any good for playing metal and for a begginer? i wanna get sounds similar to slipknot and slayer from it. do you reckon its suitable?
will the distortion on it be good enought for me to not use a boss mt-2 distortion pedal with it?
im also wondering if anyone has used it and what they think of it
cheers

If you plan on getting an shitty line2 spider amp to play slipknot on it, you'd be doing yourself a favour selling your guitar and stop playing

Mentioning Slipknot on this site is tripping on your own feet in terms of gaining respect.

I dont think this was very helpful, and it's a line 6 not, line 2, and when you wrote "an shitty" it should've been "a shitty."
Anyway, since no one else seemed to help this poor fella, I will. The Line 6 Spider II that you are asking about sounds good IMO. I have played on both the 75 and 30 watt version and they sound good to me. For Slayer, I think it sounds ok, but for Slipknot, I dont know, I never play their stuff. The different amp models is a cool feature. Yes, the distortion on the amp is sufficient enough to get you by, but if you are looking for a specific sound, you might want to use your pedal or something. Hope this helps man!!

neither of those bands really have unique/special tone... i'd personally rather have a couple good sounds from an amp than a hundred mediocre ones..

The line 6 spider 2 is good for all things nu metal the distortion is ok for slipknot, but u cant expect much out of a moddeling amp but for the price u pay its good. The clean tone isn't much to rave about but its good for just practicing. Slipknot dont actually use them but mick thompson did the presets along with everesances (however u spell them) guitarist.

i finaly played a spiderII today... let me just say it was worse then i imagined.
it was HORRIBLE, words cant describe the shityness of the sound, and overall cheapness of the thing. i always when along with everyone bashing it, but i didnt think it could be THAT bad, it is, actualy its worse.
id rather have a an acustic guitar for practice then have to play an electric though this POS.

it wouldnt be a bad practice amp for a beginer. the quality isnt very good compared to line 6's more expensive combo amps though. my first amp was a 65 watt crate, i receomend saving up for somthing like that.

Id say go with something like a marshall valvestate 8100 half stack... one of those can be had for very cheap.

i just traded $150 worth of stuff(a hush super C and a bbe 462 sonic maximizer) for a fender rocpro 1000 head....
if you want a good loud, cheap s.s.(i think theres a tube in the drive channel) head or combo, fender rocpro...
seriouslym the distortion on this thing is actually really nice...

well, the psa-1 is the poop... fucking awesome.
as for this head... the rocpro actually can get some good distortion tones... it's not like most fenders, not really much of a clean amp at all... it's fucking cheap as hell though.
i basically bought it as a backup.... and because since i'm selling off my rack gear i'm going to need something to play through for a while until i get my new rig back up and running.
it's loud and gives a pretty good sludgey distortion...

i like how it's analog solid state, not digital modeling... so it sounds "real". and you have nobs instead of buttons n' stuff... it's got really interesting controls.
and you can save it all into presets like with a jmp-1, triaxis, mp-1, ect.
it also doesnt have different modes, like my jmp-1 per se, 4 different voicings cl1, cl2,od1,od2... with the psa-1 it all just depends where you knock the knobs to. you can get really cool spanky LA studio-ish cleans all the way to buzzsaw grind core distortion.
it's a good preamp imo.

upon reading this, i realized that this guy is exaggerating big time!! of course it may not be the best, but it is definitely no the worst!! i played on the 30 watt and 75 and yes i do notice a big difference. the 30 watt has a little less features but it sounds alright for a beginner. i mean if u r a beginner u shouldnt head to somethig super loud. but i agree with whoever said u'd be better off saving for a crate 65 watt combo, its much better., hope this helped
