engl questions
I have heard nothing but good things about engl amps. I plan on getting one soon. I play metal and hardcore and I want the best between the richie blackmore model, and the fireball. The fireball is more affordable, but it only has 60 watts. Is this going to be powerful enough to go against my other guitarist that plays a marshal tsl? Can anyone help? Thanks.

it should be plenty loud, wattage doesnt matter much, if your both running through 4x12's then the same amount of air is being moved around which will make it sound the same to the people in the audience...nice choice on amps though!

well depends what you want outa it i guess, the powerball has 4 channel vs the fire's 2 and the power has a built in noisegate in the back and its 100 watts but that extra 40 doesnt make much a difference. id say keep the cab you have unless you got the extra to spend, but the 1960 cab is a standerd and sounds awsome with almost any head, i have one. i dig it. some die-hard engl fans would say go with their cab, but unless you have the $$ and really really want the head-cab to match then dont bother

the difference in volume between a 100w-120w head and a 50w-60w head, is only 3db(audible, but not much)...
what kind of cab does your guitarist have?
if you switched to a cab with vintage 30's instead of g12t-75's(that's what's in your marshall) that will give you +3db in volume... they're more effecient speakers.
so say if you have a 60w fireball with a v30 4x12 cab.. and your guitarist has a 100w tsl with a cab that has g12t-75's... you should have a pretty equal amount of volume.

My other guitarist has a mesa 4x12 standard recto cab. What cab do you suggest with the vintage speakers...engl, marshall, what?

speakers make a world of difference... i wouldnt say a vintage 30 sounds any better than a g12t-75, because they're both equally good... but they do sound a quite different.
my point was more that a vintage 30 is a more effecient speaker and will give him about +3db in volume over his g12t-75 cab, thus the common remark "vintage 30's can make a 50w head sound like a 100w head."

a fireball will sound more powerfull then a TSL any day. seriously, even with lacking 40 watts of power, it does sound more 'cutting' and agressive in the mix.
The ritchie blackmore is more of a 'rock' map whilst the fireball is more agressive and metal orientated. I have a savage 60 and a fireball, the savage 60 is better then the fireball but its rare. the powerball is the big brother of the fireball with more options and more wattage.
if I'de have to choose between a ritchie blackmore or a fireball, I'de probably pick the fireball because of its tone.the blackmore is a great amp, don't get me wrong.. but the fireball is more for metal, the blackmore is more of an 'all-rounder'
