floyd rose help
hey, i recently got my new guitar, its a starter guitar but it has a floyd rose trem on it. well the strings that came with the guitar were garbage, pure crap and were as brittle as they can get. well inevitably (sp? ) they snapped and i've just ordered a set of ernie ball regular slinkys.
i just wanted to know whether you lot knew a website which shows how to install strings step by step on a floyd rose system or whether you could quickly go throught it for me.
sorry if its in the wrong room im a n00b
neways, cheers for your help

ok, this is going to sound really really stupid, but how do you tune a floyd rose? is it at the headstock with the machineheads or at the bridge with the lil turning things.
does anyone kno what those lil turning things at the bridge is meant to do and what they are for?
sorry for the stupid questions, im new to guitars

My drunken info;
Example, you are in E and want to go to D...
Untighten the locking nuts at the headstock firt of all. Then loosen the screws in the back of the guitar to make the bridge rise up...I'd do about a 1/2 turn on the screwdriver. Then tune the guitar to D...If the guitar is too high tuned, loosen the bridge a little bit more. If its too low, tighten the bridge. So what you have to do is loosen the bridge, tune it to D, then retune it to see if it stayed in tune.
After it is in D and you retest the strings to see if it is still in D, tighten the locking nuts...After you do that it might be a little bit out of tune. Thats what the fine tuners are for (those lil turning things at the bridge). Turn them clockwise and you'll tune the selected string up, counterclockwise will tune them down (my mom says I'm special). So yeah, thats what I did with my guitars I've had with floyds. If its a Licensed Floyd, don't bother using the whammy bar, it'll throw it out of tune.

the tuning things on the bridge are for Fine tuning so if its just a little out then use them.
otherwise you have to use the headstock.

^ yeah
Are you switching to a different gauge string? If you want to be in standard, is your guitar tuned too high or too low?
If its too low tighten the screws in the back of the guitar a little bit and retune the guitar...repeat til the guitar is tuned perfectly. Then tighted the locking nuts (headstock nut thingies) and retune the guitar with the fine tuners.
If the guitar is tuned too high, loosen the screws in the back. So all you want to do is use common sense....tighter the screws in the back, the higher the tuning...the looser you make the screws, the lower the tuning.

helpful hint before you mess with the screws in the back....Mark the screws somehow so that you know each screw is rotated the same. I mark mine with a magic marker. You can scratch them too...

cool cool, cheers guys
just one more thing, i think i am changing the gauge on my strings as the other strings were unbranded pieces of crap which were supplied with the guitar where as i am using ernie ball regular slinkys (10, 13, 17, 26, 36, 46).
does that effect anything? will i have to do anything to accomodate them?
cheers

yeah, just put your Earnie balls, then let them accomodate (like you said) with the lock nut untied for a while, then you can tune your guitar, tie the nut and tune the guitar!
Holp that you understood me!hehe
SEE YOU!

its all about the bridge height and angle.
heavier guages will pull it up
higher tunings will pull it up.
so if you are changing to thicker strings but keeping the same tuning, you need to tighten the screws inside at the back to pull the bridge back down.
irelevant point: i got an edge tremelo(floyd rose licenced) set up for 009gauge strings in concert pitch, changed to 10-52's and tuned to D-standard and i didnt have to alter the screws.
