Who You Are

I'm going to ask this question because I'm in the middle of trying to create my own sound/stlye.

So I ask...

How did you find your type of scale? The scale you call yours.
How did you find your amp?

Basically how did you find and KNOW that it's your sound/stlye?

Stupid question but I felt it needed to be asked. This also explains my last thread about Randy Rhoads...So...

Thanks bros

Thats pretty difficult to answer, because it takes years to find your sound.

I've been playing for six years and I am still searching for that perfect tone. It helps to listen to your favorite bands a lot...kinda use their tone as an example and go from there. Just don't buy every piece of gear your favorite artist(s) use thinking you will sound like them....cus' you won't. Read a lot of reviews of gear....and ask xdislexicx. He should help you a lot.

Yea man, I know how to play guitar and everything but I'm just trying to hone my skills.

Let me go out on a cliff...

I lesion to a lot of Ozzy and BLS. So what would be a good over all scale that covers that type/sound of music?

Yeah, that makes sense, you gotta play to yourself to find your tone, be your own critic of what you want to sound, and play like.

try using any type of scale, but try to use it in your own way in songs.

As for scales, I started just playing "whatever", chromatic-type Slayer shit, then I started kind of mimicking Nile and Cannibal Corpse and starting getting into using, harmonic, augmented, whole tone, diminished and other exotic-type scales.

my songs sound like a mix between old Old Man's Child and Kalmah.

Its hard to say. I would give anything to sound like In Flames older stuff, but when ever I sit down and write a song it comes out sounding like Amon Amarth on my acoustic but then I play it plugged in and faster and it comes out as some, in my opinion, death metal that could be mistaken for CC. You know when you've found your sound when you are playin something written by someone else then you start playing something else that sounds good to you but you've never heard anything like it before. That was how it was for me anyway. But thats not to say that your sound cant change. The only shit I used to be able to write was power metal and it really fucking pissed me off because Im in love with melodic death and then it progressed over time to what I play now and would feel totally confident about recording.

Wow, I totally missed the point of the thread......just whore the shit out of the Aeolian.

Garden of Shadows and Rotting Christ influenced me a lot. I notice it when ever I come up with an riff, it always reminds me of those two bands.

certain styles of music require differnt scales... alot of people (my guitarist especially comes to mind) like alot of thrash and death metal types of music because theyre are less rules... well actually just more room for breaking them... because he doesnt know his theory for shit, but that doesnt mean he doesnt know how to play... he can shred all over my ass, but i know more musically because i know my theory.

say you want a happy poppy vibe when you play, try playing in a major key.

if you want something a bit darker and "sad", try a more minor key.

but for just grooving and jamming lead stuff i love penatonic scales... or blues, which is similar, just extra passing tones.

diatonic, chromatic, diminished type scales apeal to me alot because they seem pretty different from the norm.

guitar is something to feel..... just jam alot and have fun with it, you'll get the feel.
you can learn every riff and solo from all your guitar heros, but if you can't write your own shit then you're just another walking copy machine.
