Which guitar amp would get me a good hardcore sound (specifically poison the well). I have a esp ltd ex-400 with two emg 81's. Which amp would you recommend, i have around $800-$1000 to spend

I saw them a week ago with DEP and Burst, they played marshall tops and gibson les pauls. (they used to play tele's even) they had jcm900's on stage.
but ehm, I wouldn't call PTW a good example of a good hardcore sound, they're one of the bands that does not have a standard hardcore sound, actually their tone is pretty lame/thin IMO. what other bands did you have in mind?

i think they have endorsements with marshall... last i saw them they had jcm 2000's.
but i think the guitar tone on opposite of december is fucking awesome, i think they used bogners to record that cd....
anything after that just isnt as good...
but as def said, i don't think it's a very standard metalcore tone... if you want that you probably want a 5150,5150 II or a mesa recto... because those seem to be the most common in metalcore thesedays.

I agree, the opposite of december has much better tone then you come before you.
And actually, the older tracks are better too if you ask me.

i think they fucking rock... cool dudes and t.o.o.d. is a retardedly good cd... likeone of my favorites... the newer one you come before you, well, it's good, but not as good... a tear from the red is also pretty good for the most part imo.
they stray from the traditional metalcore sound/style alot... and alot of there shit is fucking heavVvy....
but i'd have to sad the tone and recorded sound of opposite of december is much better than the newer stuff and i atually like the material more.

Other bands
The other bands i am into are Atreyu, Hopesfall and I Killed the Prom Queen.
What do you think of the esp ex-400 guitar series guitars? How much are second hand 5150's? Which one would you recommend, the 5150 or the
5150 2?

i personally dislike atreyu, but.... i know for a fact they use 5150's... last time i saw them one guy had a 5150 and the other had a 5150 II.
i think the 5150 II is better, it's voiced brighter(which i like) and has separate eq's for each channel... so you don't have to sacrifice your clean tone to get a good distortion. which is my biggest beef with the 5150.
but the 5150 is awesome too... my guitarist has one... it does good chunky high gain tone at the drop of a hat. which is why most metalcore bands like them i guess(i think atreyu is just endorsed though). but to get those amazing distortion tones you might find that your cleans become less than prestine.
the average selling price of a 5150 on the used market is about $500, give or a take about $150 depending on the condishion... one guy might have one in mint condishion with new tubes and everything selling it for like $600, while another dude has his for $400 but the tolex is all ripped up and the tubes have quite a few hours.
from my experience, even if you buy new gear it's gonna get battle scars eventually, so what does it matter if it's got a couple rock n' roll spots to begin with?
you can fully retube a 5150 with a hand picked jj's from eurotubes.com for $100
which is awesome.
5150 II's normally go for about $100 more on the used market.

Guitar and cabinet
Ok thanks im looking around for good second hand 5150's now. Which guitar do you recommend for me? I like the esp ex400's, and some epiphone les pauls are good. Which would you recommend? Also should i buy the matching 5150 cabinet or are the marshall or other brands better?

so, you already have the ex400 with dual 81's... i think that'd be a great combo with a 5150 setup. you could probably get a 5150 cab for like $250-$350 used depending on the condishion. a marshall 1960 would probably be about $300-$450 depending on the condish.
i prefer the marshall cabs, but i still love the way sheffeilds sound... it's mostly the brand names that's the cause of the cost difference, marshall is bigger and can charge more, but imo that doesnt mean it's really that much(if any) better than the peavey... and the celestions(in the marshall) are much bigger and can cost more than the sheffeilds but it doesnt mean it's better. i just prefer the sound of g12t-75's over sheffeild 1200's, they have a smoother less raw sound to them by being so focused on lows and highs. sheffeilds seem to have a more vintage 30-ish midrange grunt to them yet still keep tight lows.
it's all personal taste, i think either one would sound great with a 5150, but you just might prefer one over the other.
