Stupid Question #4506
What are the common scales that Randy Rhoads and Zakk Wylde use when their with Ozzy? I know that Zakk uses pentatonic and diatonic. But I'm more interested in what Randy used...I mean Randy's solos where like songs/storys within themselves. I'm more or less trying to figure out their sound. I know I can't sound or even be another Randy or Zakk but hell...doesn't hurt to try.
EDIT: Any other info would be nice

I'm sure Randy just used the natural minor scale:
Intervals:
W-H-W-W-H-W-W
Or in the key of E:
E|-0-2-3-5-7-8-10-12-|

Randy Rhoads can sound a lot like Steve Vai at times, because they both use similar, and weird sounding, modes. I remember hearing what mode SV usually plays in, but I forgot it. Randy did some awesome tapping in his solos, which added a nice touch to the songs.
I like the solos in Facing Hell, and Dreamer, 'cause I haven't heard too much else.

I know he used it quite a bit. I think he also occasionally used the Dorian mode:
W-H-W-W-W-H-W
or in E
E|-0-2-3-5-7-9-10-12-|
or at least I vaguely remember learning it as a result of a Randy solo. And I'm sure he used the blues scale a couple times. But most of it goes under natural minor.

too bad both of those songs have Zakk Wylde on them. so basically, you tell us how Randy sounds, then proceed to admit youve never heard one of his solos?

They are both insane guitarists, but I dunno what scales they use, accept it's a given most older heavy metal lead guitarists use pentatonic.

Wow! I screwed up!
Everything I said before is now directed towards Zakk Wylde, because he's awesome. So if what I've been hearing is correct(that Randy is better), then I can't wait to hear him.

Randy mixed at least the blues, & natural minor.
See the opening few bars of the Flying High again solo. Oh shit, I'm right again. 2 instances of a C (b5) in an F# natural minor scale in the first 4 bars.
