Ideal guitar for low-tuned rythm-playing, 600-800$
What I'm looking for is a solidly performing, mahogany bodied guitar, no tremelo, and will facillitate A-tuning very well within the price range of 600-800$ ( I might even spring for something that's 900$ )
Epiphone Zakk Wylde ( I would replace the pickups with higher quality models, possibly an 81/60 set )
LTD Deluxe Viper 1000 Electric Guitar
LTD Deluxe EC-1000
Schecter BlackJack 006
Schecter S-1 Elite ( I'd replace the Duncan Designed pickups as well )
I think I might be partial to the Zakk Wylde since I'm pretty fond of the raw un-finished maple neck feel ... I've played all these brands and like them all, and I'm as indecisive as anyone could be. The problem is I can only get one, so which one do you think I should get?

Of those five... definately Viper 1000. Personally, haven't played it, but I have played nearly every Ltd Viper, and if it's as good or better than the -400, I'd have no choice. Generally Vipers are good guitars for lower tunes, I know a few guys who play Ltd Vipers at any tune, b,a,c#,d,f, you name it, they've played it. Just make sure you buy good strings to it, DRs are nice. The EC is a excellent guitar too... at least the -400 and -1000. The one with S-D has neat cleans and nice distortions, but active EMGs are the shit for metal IMO.
Generally I don't like Epiphones, not because that I don't like Gibson either, but because I hate Epiphone quality. I'm not saying that Ltd is perfect, but generally still waaay better IMO. Though I haven't played the ZW model, so no comments on that one.
Haven't played Schecters (I hear they're nice?), but the RG321 I wouldn't even touch...
But you should go and play every one of them and you'll know which feelsgood to you and which doesn't...
EDIT: or you could just look for a used ESP instead of a topline-Ltd, cause Ltds are nothing compared to them...

Good points about the ESP Viper ... I used to own an Epiphone SG G-400 which I outfitted with a dimebucker/iommi/grover outfit, the only thing I did'nt like about it was the standard length scale which made the A tuning I use a little less precise ... ESP Vipers' scales are extended a little bit, no?
In my personal opinion,
Ibanez =

No point in me starting a new thread so here goes;
Anyone played the Epiphone Zakk Wylde Camo Custom? I think it was released in February along with the Buzzsaw. Anyway, what I'd like to know is the neck one-piece maple, and are those inlays real MOP? What about the size of the neck - is it the 1960 Slim Taper, or the fatter necks more commonly found?
EMG-HZ's are shit yes, but what about the rest of Epi ZW guitars, quality and parts wise?

I'm not in the market for the camo one because it's a Zakk Wylde guitar, fool. I want one because I want a Les Paul and I love maple necks, so voila - one comes along!
Fuck you man. Zakk Wylde and BLS kick ass.

I've owned an LTD before, and a Schecter (although I don't think they were those specific ones). Both brands are great. And I'm thinking I've heard some pretty good reviews on that Schecter Elite. Most anything labeled as a "baritone" guitar is fit for heavy fucking metal and really low tunings. But it depends on what you mean by low-tuned (whether its C# or A, etc). While I don't like Zakk Wylde, his guitar may kick ass--still, I've never tried it. Just for another random vote, I'll say Schecter S-1 Elite. Haven't seen it, but usually Schecter look cool and sound great (and like I said, I think I've heard good things on it). Otherwise that LTD Delux EC-1000 sounds kick ass. Jeez, you're so lucky. It's not that time of the decade for me to be searching for another guitar.
So happy hunting.

You could check out the LTD MH-400B. It's the MH guitar with an extended scale. Since your tuning down to A, an extended scale guitar is what I'd be looking for if I were you.
Or if you'll just throw some thicker strings on it, a Jackson SLSMG is where it's at. Mahogany neck through a mahogany body, ebony board, bound neck, and EMG-HZ's. A used one will run you less than the Epi new, then you can get better pickups with the cash you save.
These are just things I'd check out. Check 'em out or don't.

Starting a new thread for said topic would probably be more conducive to such discussion, we're already too pre-occupied with the fact that I've purchased my guitar..

I've heard from many people that Gibson Explorers detune very well. I'd look into those. They fit your bill
