Depends on the album.

soul of a new machine - old school brutal death metal
demanufacture - very modern, simple death metal with industrial overtones
remanufacture - techno remixes of demanu
obsolete - borderline of nu metal and demanu
digimortal - nu metal
archetype - havent listened

I'd say industrial metal, although I only own one of their albums.

Hell it was terrible, I hated it. On the song Cyberwaste, Burton had to fill in a few seconds of yelling FUCK YOU every now and then, but Raymond still kicks ass at the drums. I'll give it that, the man rules on the double bass pedals.

i'd say they started as industrial death, then went industrial metal, digimortal was their attempt at nu metal and it failed, and archetype is fucking incredible, and back to straight industrial metal with alot of good double bass

Haha. They are all good but they need to learn how to write songs better. Its all just based on drum beats basicly.

I'd agree with Knight and say industrial metal because they have such a heavy sound.

I dont't mind them, I have hered all their cds except SOANM and re-manufacture, im pretty sure im not missing out on much with the latter anyway. I personally don't mind them, including the infamous obsolete and digimortal, which everybody seems to dislike, as far as the new one goes, i don't like it much, apart from the track Slave Labour, which is "fully sick"

I've been a fan of Fear Factory for many years and everything up to and including Obsolete is excellent stuff in my opinion. Digimortal and Archetype probably had an album's worth of decent tracks between the two of them, but for the main part I like Fear Factory. Their first two albums are great, particularly Demanufacture - everybody should own this truly innovative album.

Why's that? did the lyrics ''you cant tear me apart'' get you in a nice aggresive mood for hockey?

Right. It's true that the entire band seems to be an extension of the drummer, that it's highly repetitive, and whatever else, but for me that's the closest they get to perfection. When they move away from that (as they have to starting with parts, if not all, of Obsolete, since more than one Demanufacture's unnecessary and strange) they're much weaker. There's a reason the bassist could replace the guitarist without any hitch, and it's not pejorative.
