I took me a few hours to beat, there are someparts, that take a little thinking, and knowing when and who to strike (I'm tring to not give away the story line too much... Its good till the end), and the cuts sceans are a bit long... All in all about 8ish.

hrm. sound of perseverance was the death metal equivalent of malmsteen. yeah, all the musicians were amazing. yeah, some of the stuff is pretty good. yes, the vocals sucked. chuck absolutely shredded his vocals by the end of his career. everything about TSoP was technical and impressive, but lacked real emotional substance and replay value. compare "pull the plug" to "spirit crusher". compare "flattening of emotions" to "story to tell". compare "low life" to "to forgive...". the entire album is quite emotionless.... which is often the problem with technical metal in general. have you noticed that? its hard to express basic human emotion when youre caught up in making something incredibly technical. a few bands can pull that off, but for the most part bands like demilich and anata are pretty devoid of feeling. suffocaiton however did manage to pull it off.

as for masvidal's influence, it was great on human. that album is the quintessential death album in my opinion. it takes a little bit of everything and makes it into one impressive, brutal, melodic, emotive and heavy masterpiece.

in my opinion chuck went downhill from there. the control denied album sucks, all the songs sound exactly the same and have very "chuck" but also very "boring" riffs.
