Question about guitar synthesizer

Hi everyone! Just wanted to say this looks like a great board and I'm looking forward to posting/commenting here.

I have a question if anyone can help. I never thought I'd be asking something like this, but I'm trying to simulate a keyboard sound with my guitar so my band can do more keyboard stuff. Can anyone recommend what gear I would need, and what is the absolute cheapest (if possible) as I just bought the Boss GT-6 (fyi: I run through a 5150 straight with a wah and chorus for the clean chanell, and that's it, but we're trying to get a bit more top 40).

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm not even sure a synthesizer will do what I'm trying to do

Thanks.

I have a GNX3 and it makes some synth-like sounds. I'm sure the GT6 could do something like that too.

Thanks for the info.

We have considered a keyboardist, but 1, there's no one around here (that we've found), 2, we're kind of greedy on the pay as we don't plan on doing much keyboard stuff anyway.

But I hate to sound totally stupid here, lol, but is that what a synthesizer for guitar is suppose to do?

Thanks again (I'll get the GT-6 in a couple of days).

For a reaaall Synth sound u need a GK-2, i mean, a special pickup....and then a synth processor, i guess is the GR-33 form roland and u can sound like a violin, keyboard, sax and lots of things, pretty nice thing....

If u have the GT 6 then there is a simulator for that, in the FX2 u have "guitar synth" and are some weird things like "a la atari or nintendo" sounds but there are good things....theres also a patch that is kinda simple but sounds like a synth and i use it for all the keyboard things in my band, is the one called "Synth flute", pretty nice one too....just dig on your GT 6, it isnt just a simple thing, is a PROCESOR and its veeeeeery complex, u need to experiment with it a lot, i love mine....i reccomend u boss and roland things....im onto jazz though...o_o

lol TrendKill

And thanks Squall, that's good to hear (about the GT-6). I really don't want to drop anymore cash. If the GT-6 can come close, that's good enough I was however looking at the GR-33 earlier and just can't justify spending that kind of money for it, and was hoping there was something that does the same but cheaper. Thanks again.

Since this is your first thread and you seem like a nice enough individual, i won't get mad. If you have questions about GEAR, please post it in the "Gear Section". The Guitar section is dedicated to anything about guitars (except gear questions like pickups, pedals, whatnot), scales, playing abilities and so forth.

I'm moving this thread to the Gear Section.

i'm sure you can get alot of synthy sounds from the gt6... but if you really want quality synth sounds....

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...ase_pid/150097/

you can use it with your gt6 too via midi...

i've contemplated buying one for my crazy ambeint shoegaze influenced stuff... because it just makes your possibilities so endless. but i don't have the cash right now, or the need in my current band(which uses almost no effects, non the less synth sounds.).

you could always buy a synth and learn how to play some keys, then you could double up....

I actually looked at that one too. If I'm not mistaken, the GR-33 is the next one up (not sure), but my band gigs a lot and I "think" I'm gonna grab the GR-33 too. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but the sounds opens up a lot of doors for my band to play a lot more stuff to make a bit more money. Thanks again for the link.
