I've seen most of them live, I remember the hauned has 5150's when I saw them, same goes for In Flames.
Fear Factory, ehhh depends on the record, I think they use line 6 heads now. with RG7's and EMG707's
thats all I know of this list.

hard to describe, guess hardcore/metalcore, we're getting more metal lately, but that's a good thing
when I was 16 I think I just bought my first real setup from saving up about a year.. I still had a shitty guitar though. man those where the days.

i think you could use and ADA mp-1
that's just what i was thinking when reading your list of bands... i don't know if any of them use them, but i wouldnt be suprised... hell metallica has tons of mesa stuff and endorsements and deizel stuff yet they use(d) the mp-1 on alot of recordings and live applications... not that i like metallica, but it just shows how it can compare to gear costinf over 10 times as much.
they go for like $150 on ebay all the time... i think you should look into one. you'd need a poweramp though. like say the peavey classic 50/50 i'm selling
i was also thinking 5150 a bit too... but everybody plays them these days .

opeth uses laneys but they run them through a pod i think so you cant neccesarily get their tone just with their amps, however they do say that they could use just the amps but then they would have to rewrite all the patches in thier pod and there just too lazy to do that

Hey, did no one ever think that Fear Fctory might use modulation in their sound? On Archetype and Soul Of A New Machine?
I found what could be it!
Modulation 'E6' I believe is it on the Digitech RP50.
Try playing Drones with the EQs on Low 7, Mid 6, High 6 with the gain and volume rolled back a bit.
AHAHAHA!!!! I lost sleep trying to get that sound. Drones was the first thing I could ever play entirely!

Great things. Someone I know recently sold two of those, 3-tube modded even, for 425€ a piece. One of the best preamps there are I guess.

hey xdx, how much are you selling that poweramp for?
I wanna know if it compares to the deal I got (60/60 for $210)
Also, do you know what tubes/mods would work well in the peavey classic poweramps?

In Flames use 5150s with a POD (xt pro probably) for the fx, and they use Gibson Les Pauls', Voodoo Explorers and Voodoo Flying V's.

I second this notion.
Not that the instruments themselves are illegitimate, its just that its incredibly common ... like the easy way out.

What?
This is about a musician's tone, not their technique. Players can be individual ( almost invariably they all are in some way ), but even if you sound good, you might sound like everyone else, and plugging a Les Paul into a high gain Marshall is the most efficient way of sounding homogenous that I know of, at least in the context of rock/metal.

I did. Its worse at blocking your posts than you are at life you psuedo-pot smoking whore. I'm sure there is a mod you can seduce to get me suspended. You can PM me crying all you want again, but personally, I don't care about your hissy-pissy-faggoty feelings. Make a stupid comment, prepare to be pissed on for it. People don't overlook MY mistakes and stupidity, nor should they yours.
Now, fuck, on topic. The tone may be generic, but you start shredding, and your skill shows, and is far from generic. Game, set, match, WRONG, BITCH.

I will admit, you hear the first few notes from Zakk Wylde and you know who it is.
But it still sounds like a Les Paul through a Marshall
And for the record, in none of this here thread have I used dirty mouth.

Because Zakk has taken the time over the years to define his style (obviously ). And we both know what amps/guitars he uses...
And for the record, I use dirty mouth to show my discontent for her, and the botched-abortion she called "posting" she does on this forum.

Well John....for you it does....you're very professional and talented.
I on the other hand simply like to jam....I have no aspirations of a career in music....I am hardly in your class of talent....but I am OK with that and some of my best times are simply rocking.....

Back on topic or it'll get closed. bia, you've made about as much sense as a rock, and I think you are under the influence. or you just want john really bad, so blow him and get it over with.
EMG pickups are what is wrong with metal guitarists these days, if you ask me. It seems most get them to have the same kickass tone (which it does...) but its just generic. What sets a person apart is their style and ability. Just admit your fault and I'll stop being a total dick.

I have to admit you're right on the EMG's. Custom pickup manufacturers are churning out more and more active pup's though, Kent Armstrong, Diezel, even Seymour Duncan. I myself like sterility.
Hopefully Dimarzio will make some.

I do make sense like a ROCK....
As for "under the influence....I have been 100% sober for 2 weeks now....In a new town with no connections.
Complementing John is easy.....he has talent. Blowing him isnt an option my disgruntled friend.

I guess you are talking about connections?
John: yeah, active isn't really my thing. I know EMGs take out the natural tones in your wood, don't they?

I dunno, I kinda have to agree w/ Bia on this, it's a bit annoying these days w/ guys using rack stuff. If you like it and all, great, but for me, just a guitar, amp, and stomp boxes will do it for me. And all these people using Marshalls for the name is just as annoying, but if you're like Zakk and can get an awesome tone, then I think that's fine.

EMG's dont take out natural tones.. they just dont rely on the tonewoods as much as a passive pickup. Which is why and EMG will have the same overall tone in any guitar, were as a passive will sound extremely different in a ply wood bodies guitar and a guitar made of Koa.

Yeah, it just takes more of the "character" out. Passives seem to give it more of an overall gritty dirtier tone, while again EMG's are...."sterile".

Dissection: No, i'm talking abour flirting with cashiers. Smiling a lot, thrusting your chest out a little, shoulders back...not that hard.
And racks can be simple too. I have pretty much Preamp---->Poweramp--->cab going right now.
