parallel connection of a humbucker's singlecoils ?

in some ibanez models such as rg270dx the second position of the pickup selector makes the singlecoils of the bridge humbucker work in a parallel way what does this mean and what type of sound does this produce cause i have a rg 370dx where the second position
makes the second single coil of the bridge humbucker work along the middle singlecoil, but since i'm thinking of installing a x2n dimarzio in the bridge i was thinking also that i would change the wiring if the parallel thing sounds good what do u think, thanx in advance.
