Ozzy's has been on the bandwagon for the past few years already. I think he has a reality show called The Osbournes....right? It's been commercialized so much with ads in magazines, billboards, merchandise, and hell, even the burning of Ozzyisms, as in Ozzy doing everyday things like changing a garbage bag on a garbage disposer or trying to get talk in his cell phone, but having difficulties doing them.
Is the show any good? I haven't seen any of it. I've just read about it.

That's probably gonna happen. But then there would be that badass band that kicks all of their asses, then gets a record deal with a record label that doesnt sign many metal bands or any metal bands at all. Like Sony or Interscope instead of Earache or Nuclear Blast.

im guessing if there are any good bands there they wont make it cuz people have their heads up their ass when it comes to music. this tour is the reason people think slipknot is the "heaviest of death metal"

If you didn't notice, Nu-Metal had it's hayday for about 5 years. Bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park being the biggests of the genre for those years. Nu-Metal is dying out already, and what's here to take it's place is emo-metal and pop-punk. Ever since Nu-Metal's decline, these genres (mainly pop-punk, emo is fairly recent) have begun to rise.....examples are Good Charlotte, Blink 182, Simple Plan (or something like that), Hoobashit, and about a million others. Nu-Metal's dead man.

Rap wasn't always big until about 2000. The same could happen to any form of music. I'm just pointing out that the show may open more trend followers to nu metal and make it bigger, almost as big as pop punk and hip hop. It may not be called nu metal, more like pop metal. I shutter to think...

bah, metalcore is the slightly heavier cousin of nu metal. nu metal is indeed put to rest, but metalcore is on the way up. its unfortunate, because poser kids have discovered bands like in flames and soilwork, listened to the newer stuff and loved it, worked their way back to the old stuff, discovered other bands like it etc etc.

I saw the battle for ozzfest show. It showed some lame viking metal band dressed up in armor and I guess they didn't make it. Every single band that did make it was dripping with drama and emo. It was so funny I couldn't stop watching and I can't wait til the next one.

I finally saw the first episode. It’s just a bunch of crappy metal bands that can’t really be put into a sub genre. I noticed one band that if I had to choose to win is this one death metalish band, the others just sucks all together. There was one band kinda close to metalcore, but they sound like the typical metalcore band so fuck them. I still don’t know why all of a sudden this thread became a metalcore bashing thread. Metalcore is probally my favorite genre of metal other than death metal. But only if metalcore is done right, melodic and death influenced.
What’s stupid to me is that the whole band isn’t in the contest, just one guy representing the entire band. That type of thing doesn’t work for a “battle of the bands” type thing. The guy in the band may win the contest for the band, but in the end it’s about the music not who can withstand different meaningless tasks and bullshit like in other reality shows. Damn reality tv pisses me off.

That's kind of how I started, except I was about 2 years ahead of them. I don't see too many In Flames & Soilwork people around here though...
It's [in some hard to understand way] good that metal is getting back to couch potato teens, but it's probably crap metalcore mixed with nu-metal and emo, and that's not good, so I'm undecided on how this show will affect the MTV world. |

Emo -recent? Emo was started in 1984, motherfucker. Minor Threat broke up and some of the people from it formed a band called Rites of Spring and that was the first emo band. Also, emo is not all about crying, it used to be fueled with other emotions aswell but now it's just whining. A year ago I told someone I liked emo and she didn't know what it was, but about in the middle of the year the fever hit. It wasn't created to make money, someone just thought it could and raped it.

Two things I have yet to understand:
1. How you guys can know so much about this "shit". My only contact with Mudvayne so far has been seing it mentioned in discussions here. I've heard a bit of Slipknot and some Linkin Park, but nothing else that I can recall. You seem to know a lot about these "bad" bands that you don't listen to. I don't get it.
2. Why nu-metal is called nu-*metal*. If Linkin Park and Slipknot and newer In Flames is nu-metal, I don't get it. It has no resemblance of metal in my ears. It's just your average pop/rock/alternative (whatever I could call it) music. It has nothing to do with metal as far as I can see.

Emo is just toned down hardcore, which is obviously going to be crap. Though there are a couple of good hardcore bands around, it's basically just nu metal without rapping and low-tuned guitars.
The only thing that makes me happy when I think of this is that metal is going to outlive all these new genres \m/

Ok, I seen this show last night and it wasn't too bad. More of a comedy than anything, but I have one question.
When they, the game players, were on the lawn at Ozzfest, there was that one fag that started throwing punches in the air and just plain acted retarded. WTF was that? At first I thought it was just his thing but it looked like there were some others homos doing it too. Is this some kinda gay ass new thing that poeple are doing? Is mossing not enough that these retards have to start windmilling their arms and legs as if to say, "look at me, look at me! I'm volent and angry. I need poeple to want to kick my ass because I can't get enough attention. I might really hit someone but I don't care. Back away from me so the spot light can be on me. ME ME ME ME ME ME!"
Could someone explain that please. By the way, I bet that fucker is the first to go home. I'm sure his other band mates will kick his ass for acting like a retard to when he gets there.

The only thing good they had this year other than Slayer and Superjoint was Bleeding Through and Lacuna Coil. I hate to see it, but I'm getting sick of Lacuna Coil as of late. Not because of their music but because I have these 13 year old goths coming up to me and asking "Hey, you heard of Lacuna Coil?" I always say, "Yeah, about five years before your ass. You wouldn't even know them if it wasn't for Ozzfest."

people use the term Nu-metal to much. when ppl dont know how to catigorize what metal it is they throw it in the nu metal list. nu metal = rap bullshit with turn tables and gay ass guitar work. anyways i saw only one band like that on battle for ozzfest and it was a band named cynder or someshit like that.
theres alot of metalcore bands i saw on the show like half of them were metalcore. METALCORE DOES NOT = NU METAL NOOBS

I saw like 6 minutes of one episode and the guy from hatebreed was on it talking to all the bands. He said something like "Yo guys, this metal shit, it ain't a game, it's a lot of hard work and dedication. You gotta stick together if you wanna make it". Well, I was disgusted. All these metal band being friends and sticking together is repulsive. ;(

Thank what ever powers there are that Ozzy doesn't show up during this show very often. I don't think that his rep will be hurt by this show no matter what band wins and if they such or not. It's MTV promoted so they write and stage everything. I just think that it's funny that they have taken the biggest loser of every band and stuck them together.
I would have just beat the living hell out of that Amid (who ever that punk is that is really a fucktard) dude buy now myself, even if it meant that I was out of the competition.
I just want to beat him up so bad! I don't know how his band mates stand him? I've only seen him on TV and I hate him!

ok, Hatebreed is a hxc band.. their messages are mostly about sticking together, staying straight edge, perserverance, and beating up your fucking enemies.
