Shipping was like $120 USD, but Customs also took $109 for taxes and duties. Total was around $220 extra. Not bad considering I still got a custom made guitar for less than $1500. Well worth every cent!

Maybe Canada Customs wouldn't charge as much, not sure.

The Dean 'dimes' (yeah they're called ML) are pretty nice, although they have some serious weight. The '79 and X models are pretty nice and cheap, but I'm just not a Dean fan, nor a Dean-headstock fan. Though I can't really think of any other sensible headstock on a dime. Anyway, what's Krank amps? Never heard... Doesn't seem like a major brand. They seem to be recruiting some guys, Manson, Slipknot, Stephen Carpenter and now Dime...? Well, like I'd give a shit what amp Slipknot uses...

btw Def, what Engls do you own? I live in Finland so we have all kinds of Engl importers. I'm a big Engl fan, I remember when I gave the Powerball a try, god it scared the shit out of me!!! I mean, it blows any 5150 etc away. Damn, I want one... What about the other Engls? Savage, Fireball etc...

I've got an Engl 620 preamp powering a peavey 50/50 poweramp and an Engl Savage! the Savage beats the crap out of my rack setup though.. I'm thinking about selling the rack and getting another Engl top, I think a Powerball but I'm not sure yet!

I didn't know Finland had all kinds of importers of Engl, they're hard to get everywhere outside of Germany, I thought! I got all my Engl's in Germany, but I live pretty close to the border. the first time I tried a powerball it scared the shit out of me too, it's really fucking loud and it has the most agressive tone I ever heard, maybe less 'refined' then the Savage but it really puts out some serious punches! even compared to other high-end amps like VHT Pitbulls, Diezel VH4's, Bogner Uberschalls, Mesa Recto's, you name it!

As for comparing it to a 5150, it's just in a completely different category, though over here they're not that much more expensive then 5150's, ofcourse they're more expensive but not buy far and if you compare, the 5150 is just a total joke. No matter what guitar you use, its loud and brutal. I'de love to get another one, I can't agree more with you wanting one. When I tried my first one I was sold, now that I've got two of them I even want a new one, I think that says enough about their quality! (be prepared to get a lot of comments on your tone if you buy one )

our other guitarist bought an Engl too today! the Fireball is great! it has the punch and tone of the powerball but in a smaller package and ofcourse with less options, like a shared eq and less channels... it's still neat though, it's definetly worth trying!
My Savage has 4 channels too, but I only use two anyways, clean and high gain, low gain is more like crunch and the high gain clean is like ac/dc.

yeah, the Diezel VH4, theres a shop in holland that sells diezel, bogner and vht, and ofcourse german shops have a lot of stuff, theres this store in germany which has loads of it, if you want I can find the link (it's not musik productiv) but they have a lot too.

and eh, about 60 watts, don't worry about that! it's enough to play medium sized gigs, it's still fucking loud, I've never turned it past 60% in live situations (with 2 guitarist, bassist, loud ass drummer and vocalist ofcourse.) if you're mic'd up its all good, its still loud on stage. Our other guitarist runs his Richie Blackmore signature on 50 watts (he pulled two tubes) and its still loud enough... so no issue there!

fact. but that doesn't mean they're good for what you want, sure they have more usable gain then most other boutique amps, but its still overpriced IMO. it has a lot of shit you don't need, like the Herbert has.
Might be good if you're in some kinda dream theather like band and can use all the options.

the guy where we bought the engl blackmore off, had a Diezel VH4 and a VHT pitbull combo, he sold the Engl to get money for a new mesa cab and a Engl savage special edition. He had the VH4 for sale too.... Doesn't mean anything though, it's whatever turns your clock!

Also something I learned about amp Watts vs volume. The Volume ratio to Watts is 1:10. This means that in order to increase the volume of an amp to twice it's original volume then the watts would have to increace by a factor of 10. For exsample, a amp 600W ( max volume ) would be twice as loud as a 60W ( max volume ). So when your dealing with 50W, 60W, 100W, 120W, 150W, 200W, 300W, and 350W there will be no noticable difference in volume unless you max the volumes out... but you will not be able to hear the difference even then becuase you will be deaf.
