the evo's are nice... the super distortion is... eh. not as brutal as I would want it to be, but ofcourse it depends on what sound you're looking for!!!
the evo's are good for neck position though. but I'de probably go for a tone zone in the bridge pos.

The Evo is a pretty high gain pickup, very balance and clear. Steve Vai uses one if that helps

You could also try out the X2N which is really nice for grinding distortion, or the evo in the bridge for a more round but still really distorted tone.

Or a Tonezone if you are looking for something brutal with a bass boost.

i don't think i'd say the tonezone is too brutal... but they do sound sweet as fuck i can vouche for that. through a good amp they can pull brutal off with ease.

Indeed. tonezone's work fine with Engls But anyways, they're not as brutal as a invader or emg, they haven't got that much output either, but they sound great as in 'tone' not brutal heavyness or anything. It's no problem making them sound heavy if you have an amp that does metalsounds well.
good pickups though, I'de prefer them above PAF's or EVO's.

totally, they arent nearly as hot as alot of pickups out there, but i prefer to have a guitar with awesome tone and then rely on the amp to crunch my shit up.
though i wish i had something hotter when i jam through my buddy's jcm 900... his guitar is even pussier(though still sounds awesome...) it's a vintage lespaul jr. with a single p90... not a tough sounding guitar at all. my rg570 is much heavier.
so the only times i like really hot pickups are when the amps are only low/medium gain.

Mm, yeah I agree, but I still like EMG's on a cranked tube amp, if you know how to tweak the tube amp right that is, they can sound badass. the tube amp makes the EMG's stand out or something, on SS amps they're allright but sound pretty sterile, on a good tube amp I actually like an 85/81 setup.

I like the evo bridge pickup more than the neck, the neck is a bit bassy. but it might just be because of the height. either way it rules. but the bridge pickup i highly highly suggest.

If I'm not satisfied with the S.D. JB in my Schecter when it arrives, I'll definitely put an X2N in it.

so if i were to buy these 2 pickups, it would be good right? the guitarist of cattle decapitation uses this combination on one of his custom brian moores played on a bogner uberschall guitar head and the sound is fuckin awesome.

That way the pinch harmonics are articulated much more precisely
And a ten-band MXR EQ pedal will give you the extra bottom end you need and day.

I've got an X2N and I've tried a Schecter with a JB. Very different sounds but they both rock. I think the X2N has a more vocal quality to it somehow, which I prefer. Hm, maybe the JB has a tighter sound? I dunno it's hard to express. And yeah there's something howling about the quality of pinch harmonics through the X2N that sends shivers up my spine. Personally I think the X2N has plenty of bottom end.

Its about the amp settings for the bottom end, right now with my EQ its the sex, without it... Its still fuckin' good.

Either way, I can try them both out and sell the one I like the least. Since they go for about the same on E-bay, I'll break even.

The Evo is a killer! Another good choice is the Air Zone (Tone Zone is OK, but the Air Zone is fucking phenomenal)...it's amazing on amp settings with tons of gain OR clean. If you can't get a good tone with an Air Zone in the bridge, then just GIVE UP! LOL (Also, use an Air Norton in the neck. They're amazing as well!)
