^good argumentation there sherlock.
the Ibanez, at least it hasn't been made in korea but in Japan, has a better neck and plays fast as fuck.
if you want the emg sound, get the ltd. If I'm not juding the guitar on looks, I'de still get the rg for the neck, quality and trem.

SOUND, Playability and quality is much more important to me than looks!
But both guitars seem to be good quality, the ex simply gets a bonus for looks but I wont get it for that reason.
Its seems that the answers split up 50 50 so it would be great if you would give me reasons for your choices.
Thanks

50 50 is also counting closed thread in gear forum ;-)
BTW is the RG 1570 a good choice for the RG Series. I just choose it because its in my price range...

if playability is more important, definetly get the RG, I allready mentioned reasons above.
that RG is fine, it has the prestige neck and a pretty decent edge floyd, those pickups aren't bad but you could eventually get dimarzio's or s-d's in it if you want it to be heavier, its an easy modification.
anyways, you played them yet or what?

fuck the LTD Ex, most of that is based on looks and just plain 'ol it shouldnt be bought since its a poser as explorer and the atreyu fag emo's with it. The RG looks pretty badass and shit, never played it or had any experiance with it but i would totally get it.

Nope havnt played them yet. Thats one reason why Im asking ;-)
The thing is that I will hardly be able to try them out since theres only a pretty small music store around here which doesnt carry a large variety of stuff...

well, before you buy a guitar, play it, it doesn't matter what we say, it's your guitar and you gotta try what's best for you.
try and find a bigger store and drive your ass over, I have to drive to germany for most of my gear, but that doesn't stop me from getting it

I just saw his video and laughed at how he had his guitar 2 inches from his chin and flailed around emo kicking like some kung fu asshole. It amused me.

Atreyu use EX-350's and EC-400's with EMG's in them and upgraded hardware.
Darkest Hour uses EC-300 as well.
If you got them for free you would too

I fit was me making the choice, I'd save my money.
ESP
+EMGs
+Knobs well out of the way
-22 frets (unplayable for me)
-Set neck (IMO the feel of a bolt on with the modability of a neckthrough)
-No floyd
Ibanez
+A trem bridge
+24 frets
-Pickups that I'm not sure I'd like
-Knobs hindering me if I try to palm mute the higher 3 strings
-Unplayable body shape (can't get it to hang where I want it)
So, I would not be anywhere near satisfied with any of those guitars. I'd rather buy a Jackson KE3 and put some EMGs in it, or something like that. I don't know what price level we're talking though.

Well thanks for the info!
Both of these guitars are already stretching my budget :-( But I think its worth it. I wont be able to go any farther though. If you don't think these are any good, which ones would you recommend in a similar or lower price range?

Could one of you post a sound sample of a guitar with emg 81 and something similar to a ibanez rg series. So I can hear the difference...
It would be really appreciated! Thanks

that's personal, I can't stand pointy body shapes while the rg fits me like a glove, it's really comfortable IMO!
and I have no idea how you're palm muting the higher 3 strings while hitting the knobs
Set necks are nice, but from experience I can say the ltd neckthru's don't really have more sustain or feel then a good bolt-on. the neckthru esp's are great though.
It kinda depends what body shape he's looking for too, if he wants something extreme he's not going to like the rg much. As for looks I think the ltd is just ugly, but thats just personal. I like EMG's though in ltd's, I don't like them in Ibanez's at all, they're more passive pickup guitars, but the stock pickups in this rg are pretty good anyway.

Are the EMGs better than the passive ibanez pickups?

that's really a matter of taste, but most people do prefer them for metal. I guess the only way to find out is play them for yourself man.

Yeah, I was perhaps not very clear about what I posted. It's just *my* opinion. I know many disagree. (Especially about the RG shape)
What I meant was that I have trouble palm muting the higher 3 strings when the knobs are where they are on that Ibanez. My pinky goes right where the knob is, so my hand can't get quite as far down as it would like. And that makes me mess up.

ah, I get the idea, you're an 'open hand' player like me. (eh, you don't make a sort of fist when holding the pick, but instead of that, open hand.)
guess you can get in trouble if you pick near the tremolo, usually when I'm up on higher strings I have the tendency to go more towards the neck. Guess its just a matter of what you're used to.

One last question:
The main differences seem to be 22 vs. 24 frets and a floyd rose tremolo...
For what kind of music styles/techniques will I need those things?

I would get the Ibanez. I have an Ibanez GRX20L and I absolutely love it. It isn't the most expensive guitar, but shit it stays in tune, sounds nice and heavy, and its quick as hell. I don't know about ESPs never played one.
