Strumming?
I've been playing guitar for about a year and have just now noticed that most people strum with their fingers resting just below the strings and their hand usually touching the strings. When I strum my hand and my fingers do not touch the guitar or the strings at all, does it matter how you strum?

I'm not really sure what you're describing, but it sounds like the people you see resting their hands on the strings are palm muting.

Hopefully this will help:
Guitar
This is what my hand looks like when i'm strumming, the two blue sticks touching the black triangle represent my thumb and index finger. The other 3 sticks represent my other 3 fingers over the strings. My fingers and my palm never touch the strings or the guitar.
Guitar demon, when your strumming the top 3 strings, you place your ring finger and pinky against the humbucker, am I correct? Is your hand moving freely or is it anchored to that spot?

when you listen to these people who touch the strings as they strum, wat kind of sound is it making? is it like a punch kinda sound? or long ringing type?
their fingers could be anchored at the pickups as they strum certain strings.
or the sideof their palm(pink palm side) is rested right on the bridge or near the bridge so that the flesh of your palm is kind of obstructing the vibration of the strings. makign a muted sound as Guitar demon's stating.
sorry i really dont know what you'r trying to ask. but that's the best i can make out of your question.

If their hands are touching the strings near the bridge, then they are palm muting.

if its a deadened sound then they are palm muting, if its actually ringing then theyre not touching the strings. but dont worry about what other ppl do, do whats comfortable for u.
