5150 Half-stack
Hey, My friend just got back from Texas this week and he said that there was a Peavey 5150 half-stack for sale. It has a chip on the top corner of the head and they said it was barely used for a week. They want $999 for it. Do you think there is something wrong with the tone?

Tone is subjectional, you either like the 5150 or not.
$999 is kinda pricey..

because it had a fucking chip on the top corner of the head?
no.
I have no idea how much they are new. but if thats with the cab, then it's cheap. or well, over here it would be relatively cheap.
Ofcourse an amp can get damaged when its dropped, but you don't know what happend to it, just ask and find out, play it at low and high volumes and check it out. maybe someone just bumped into a doorpost with it.

5150's are rock solid. The only Known problems they get are open screen grid resistors.. which is caued by using the wrong tubes.
Other than that their built like tanks.

I'd say as long as it is not internally damaged somehow, that is a fair price. If the cab is also the 5150 model, I would say that is a very reasonable price.

Fuck. $999 is the new price. I would suggest buying one off ebay for half that.

I believe a 5150 halfstack for 999 is fine. The 5150 head ALONE new is 979. I wouldn't go with the 5150 cab, personally. I'd just get the head (or get a combo) and get or build a separate cab.

if it's new then 999 is great price...
but for a used 5150 half stack i wouldnt spend more than $800.
he probably just saw the price on the head and thought the cab was part of the deal. because the store is stupid if it's going as cheap as $999 for a new 5150 half stack... and $999 is too much for a used one.
and bls is right, despite what some people might say, peavey is built tough... my classic 50/50 and cs800 as well as my guitarist's 5150 are all like tanks. very reliable and durable.
