One footed balsts

Hey, my long term ambition is to be able to do one footed blastbeats. I know it's crazy, but I know of people who've only been playing for like 5 or so years and can do them no prob, so I'm wondering what exersises you people can recomend that will start me on the road to my goal. Thank you.

Derek Roddy insists this is the only way to go. Now, I'm not a drummer, but good luck in achieving this. Sounds/looks difficult.

I learnt to blast one footed (and that was about 2 years ago)

it is easy, the best way to do it is to play a basic 44 on your hands, and add lots of bass work, with just your one foot, you want to aim to get an even sounding 16th note patterns with your foot then when you foot has the strength, you go blasting!!!

play around with 16th patterns, involving syncaption etc. it is a real good way to get your foot up to stength.

and if all else fails, just add complete double kick under your blasts....

i do mostly single footed blasts.... it's easier for me than slow double pedal sometimes. just keep your heel raised, like you would with fast double bass rolls but try taking your left foot away(given you play right handed) and try to go as fast as possible...
i find it handy because i use double bass as a super tool but most of my stuff is based around singl pedal stuff... the second pedal is for super fast rolls and accents usually.

No, you set it up so you only need one pedal (maybe a heel toe pedal). I was thinking of using heel toe for single footed blasts because it doesn't look as tiring and it feels a lot smoother for me, and a heel toe pedal would have the same "space" between notes as a double kicker but... I don't know about the disadvantages of that technique. My teacher plays latin jazz, so he reckons that heel toe is best, but I don't know which is best for metal. So, heel up vs. heel toe, advice please.

I use slightly slower blast beats when I play on my hi-hats. Just keep doing that as fast as you can.

Ok to get things straight! heel/toe is a tecnique where you first hit the pedal with your toe and then in the same motion hit the pedal with your heel!
the heel/toe tec. can be performed on any known pedal and a special heel/toe pedal does not excist!

More information and videos on heel/toe located at http://www.drumtechniques.com/

There are, actually. It's a special pedal with two kickers, one is trigered by the heel half of the pedal and the other one is triggered by the toe part, they came out about 8 years ago. You can heel toe with any pedal, I know what it is, I'm just asking about it's advantages and disadvantages in metal and blastbeats, read better.

Then you should have written the name of that pedal!
Note! Playing that kind of pedal is not generaly known as heel/toe!

One footed blasts are when you use one foot on one pedal instead of using both of your feet doing double bass. I dont know what the hell you guys are talking about

If you try to come in and act as a ray of light and knowlege, atleast read up. I'm not stupid and I do my backup research. Don't tell me what I should have done. Playing that kind of pedal is heel toeing, because that's how you work it. You hit the toe part with your toes first to strike with one beater, and strike the heel part with your heel to use the second beater and alternate because that's how heel toe works and those pedals were designed for people who prefer to do everything with one foot yet still want to achieve the "space" of a two footed kicker. (If you want to see what I'm talking about, see the difference between playing a one handed roll and a two handed roll, RLRL and RRRR sound different). It is heel toeing, because that's what you do to play. I asked about something else and you babble on, give up, nobody cares about your nitpicking point.

Now, back to my question - heel up vs heel toe for one footed blasts?

You should use heel up when doing one footed blasts. Its alot easier to me and you get alot more power.

yeah I can't get heel toe blasts to work (it would help if I was good at heel toe...) just heel up and practise your bass fills over basic 44, use lots of syncapation and 16th patterns, it will get your foot strnegth up.

+1

i'm not sure you guys are talking about actually blasting with one foot or cheating out on double pedal by using a pedal like "the dualist".
