I prefer "World Coming Down," myself. I had these green tube lights up in my room (they kept falling, ended up taking them down) and on a sampler I got with Megadeth's Risk (eww) it had Creepy Green Light on it. Enough to make me go out and get that.

This is very tough! I'll limit it to one entry per band otherwise the list would simply comprise of Cryptopsy, Nile and Suffocation! I doubt that this list will be accurate in a month's time but for now it's what I'm going with. Anyway, in no particular order other than alphabetical:
Akercocke - Chronozon
Anata - Under A Stone With No Inscription
At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul
Cryptopsy - And Then You'll Beg
Fear Factory - Demanufacture
Immolation - Unholy Cult
Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines
Severed Savior - Brutality Is Law
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Suffocation - Effigy Of The Forgotten

EVERYONE classes Unholy Cult as their favourite Immolation. Which I've got no problem with - my opinion just differs. I'd either have to go with Dawn of Possession, Here In After or Close To A World Below. Unholy Cult is a masterpiece, nonetheless. Failures for Gods isn't quite in the others league.
John, you should order their DVD if you can find it anywhere (some online distros carry it). Us lucky PAL people are able to watch it, and it is FANTASTIC! NTSC's won't be printed for ages, aaaaahahaha.

Other than what CANNIBALCORPSE said:
Metallica - tie between Kill, RTL, Puppets and AJFA
Anthrax - Among the Living
Megadeth - RIP
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Nile - ...Darkned Shrines
Cannibal Corpse - Bloodthirst
Deicide - Serpents of the Light
Morbid Angel - Altars...
Sepultura - Beneath the Remains
The outcome of this list was probably affected by my nostalgic mood at the moment.

shit this isn't going to be easy
in no particular order:
1. Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
2. Amorphis - Tales from 1000 lakes
3. Amorphis - Tuonela
4. Opeth - Still Life
5. Fear Factory - Soul of a New Machine

10. tie Sentenced - crimson/Morbid Angel - gateways to annihilation
this was NOT easy. there would be alot more ties, like sonata arctica - ecliptica should be there, as well as the first 2 sabbath albums. however i think this is good for the time being, though this is in no ways concrete

I have no idea, that's why I posed the question. Wasn't that the title of the thread? And why does that make me a moron? You don't even know anything about me. I've never called YOU any names either.

As I Lay Dying - Frail Words Collapse
In Flames - The Jester Race
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
Psycroptic - The Scepter of the Ancients
Opeth - Damnation
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity
Lamb of God - As The Palaces Burn
Black Dahlia Murder - Unhallowed
none of it is in order. As I Lay Dying is rather out of place, but i honestly believe it belongs. now that i look back upon it, that list really is in order, cept for a few changes i would make, which i wont.

Thanks trend, I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I guess there's at least 2 "morons" on this thread now, haha. This is very hard. I tried to pick mine by albums that struck me as something I'd never heard before or that didn't follow their particular genre's guidelines but still slayed regardless just to keep the list to 10. I also tried to pick only metal albums that had come out in the last 5-10 years to narrow it down even further.
10. Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscapes
(Leave it to the Japanese to create a black metal Sgt. Pepper)
9. Rudra - Kurukshetra
(True middle-eastern rhythms and micro-tones fused with killer fucking black metal. Why hasn't anyone noticed?)
8. Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
(Kill yourself....now.)
7. Today Is The Day - In The Eyes Of God
(This album is the only one that actually scares me. Austin doesn't have to rely on Satanic rituals or dismembering corpses to invoke fear. The workings of his own psychotic, schizophrenic brain are cause enough to bow down.)
6. Cryptopsy - None So Vile
(WS and ATYB = great, NSV = pinnacle. My favorite album opener ever!)
5. Neurosis - Times Of Grace
(Depressive + soulcrushingly heavy. Good times)
4. Necrophagist - Onset Of Putrefaction
(Sure, programmed drums, but still, 1 man? Goddamn that Muhammad Suicmez.)
3. Martyr - Warp Zone
(Fucking mind-numbing technicality. Why are we being forced to wait so long for a new studio release?)
2. Brutal Truth - Sounds Of The Animal Kingdom
(BT proved that not all grindcore had to sound the same.)
1. Gorguts - Obscura
(I honestly feel that Obscura will never be equaled as far as pure artistic vision is concerned, not even by Gorguts themselves.)
I have a TON in honorable mention. Man that was difficult.

Black Dahlia Murder- Unhallowed
Death- Sound of Perserverance
Cacophony- Speed Metal Symphony
Jason Becker- Perpetual Burn (I know it isn't metal)

Surprising that a hardcore album has been mentioned about 5 times.

I only started listening to death metal in March of this year. I came here worshipping shred, and bashing death metal. Darko helped me out and gave me some songs to download, and from there it just grew on me. I have bought 12 albums since then, which isn't very many i'm guessing.

Under A stone With No Inscription is probably more technical than their previous efforts and they introduce more melodies (when I say melodies, they're usually of the complex and technical kind!) but as a whole they have retained the same sort of sound. I think they just use the twin guitar attack in more creative ways on the new album.

10. Paysage d'Hiver - Nacht
Unique Black Metal with winter freezing athmosphere. Essential.
9. Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger
Pure coldness.
8. Sort Vokter - Folkloric Necro Metal
Their very hypnotic and primitive music is filled a lot of strength and anger. There is no other band (except Ildjarn himself) which would make same style music in same level.
7. Slayer - Reign in Blood
Still the best album what Thrash Metal could ever offer.
6. Emperor/Enslaved split
Both bands' the best material on one CD, what else do you need?
5. Bathory - Hammerheart
Truely an essential and legendary release, there is no other band which would have reach Bathory's level of this epic atmosphere and feeling.
4. Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
A classic release, shawing, melodic and monotonous riffing, with nihilistic vocals and very monotonous drumming, which together brings a hypnotic effect to you.
3. Mercyful Fate - Melissa
The album that truely started the vein of real Black Metal.
2. Darkthrone - Under A Funeral Moon
The most perfect Black Metal album what is ever created. This is an album where truely is channeled evil and darkness into the music.
1. Tangerine Dream - Zeit
The best album ever released, just listen to this and you'll agree.

lets see
1 - Opeth - BWP
2 - CoF - midian
3 - Opeth - Damnation
4 - Opeth - Still Life
5 - ToN - World Coming Down
6 - U2 - Joshua Tree
7 - Brand New - Deja Entendu
8 - Metallica - ...And Justice For All
9 - Opeth - Deliverance
10 - The Cure - Greatest Hits
those are off the top of my head, so they will likely change later, but opeth is definitely on top with BWP

Everyone seems to be providing explanations, now...
10 - "Morningrise" Technical while not getting boring. And its Opeth.
9 - "...Sky Valley" - Great riffing. Garcia's voice mixed with the lyrics by the drummer (can't remember name) is just fucking awesome.
8 - "Symbolic" - Death. 'Nuff Said.
7 - "Undertow" - First Tool album I ever heard, way back in 1995-96. Holy shit. Fucking great album, and I knew it then, too.
6 - "Lateralus" - Another Tool album. What can I say about this album? Nothing short of great.
5 - "Wish You Were Here" - If you don't like this album, you shouldn't be playing/listening to music.
4 - "Blackwater Park" - First Opeth album I heard. Can't put it into words.
3 way tie:
"Ænima" - Another one of those albums that you can't put into words.
"Pale Folklore" - The songs on this album are what music should be: about 7+ minutes long and brilliant.
"Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness" - Any concept album that is just one song, is good. And Green Carnation's is a fucking EPIC.

RtL - metallica never got any better than this imo...songwriting, structures etc all just too good
powerslave - probably maiden's most aggressive album...and feeeeeely solos !!!
symbolic - gene hoglan \m/
human - imo, a perfect transition from death's brutal albums to their progressive side.
anthems - best emperor album...and trippy as hell.
sound of perseverance - weird \m/\m/\m/
hatebreeder - not as cheesy as follow the reaper...wouldve picked something wild, but hatebreeder scores on production...and ofcourse silent night bodom night \m/
jester race - december flower 'nuff said \m/
reign in blood - does that even need an explanation?
lunar strain - now i know this is nowhere close to being the best melodic death album of all time, but i somehow cant get off this one.
